Hey orbinauts out there, how many of you use a laptop while playing orbiter? I do. Using keymap.cfg I have changed the buttons and controls to control everything on the laptop keyboard, with no numpad. But my problem is, during orbit, alignment, and docking, switching thrusters from rotation to translation mode is vital, and in order to do that, the numpad slash button is needed. But in the keymap.cfg file, there is nothing to change or alter the control for the rotation/translation mode change. What exactly should I do? And currently, I probably do not have the budget or allowance enough to buy a joystick or a plug-in numpad.

There may or may not be a line like this:
RCSMode = DIVIDE

What about activating and using the Remote Control module?

Only problem with that is, it doesn't work with SC3 vessels. It won't accept leftshift + numkey.

Where would that line be located?

Never mind, found it in 'keymap'.cfg. Duh.

So, I seem to remember reading somewhere on the forum that if I plug in an external numpad (I have a PC, by the way), that both ROT and TRANS thrusters can be used without having to use the '/' to switch between the two. Would this require deletion of that line, or is there more involved?

I can't think of any way this would work at all.

Well, neither can I, hence the question. I just can't seem to remember where I read it. I had thought it was in the simpit forum but I've been looking around there and haven't found it yet.

It wasn't long ago, within a month.

If it's possible to have NumLock on for only one, I guess you would have different keys for each. That's dependent on the NumLock changing the function of the keys from within the hardware of the keypad. (rather than at the OS)

Edit: For some reason, I was talking about having two numpads. It should not be an issue otherwise. Have to look up what to change to use rotation and translation separately...

Googling, it looks like these pertain strictly to translation:
RCSUp = NUMPAD2
RCSDown = NUMPAD8
RCSLeft = LEFT
RCSRight = RIGHT
RCSForward = UP
RCSBack = DOWN
(insert whatever keys you like)

For rotation:
RCSPitchUp = NUMPAD2
RCSPitchDown = NUMPAD8
RCSYawLeft = NUMPAD1
RCSYawRight = NUMPAD3
RCSBankLeft = NUMPAD4
RCSBankRight = NUMPAD6
(again, change what you like)

Thanks very much for the info guys!:tiphat:
I think I may get an external numpad and see if its keys will map separately.

And sorry for jacking your thread AstoBeatle.:cheers:

If you go to Links from the Orbiter Homepage then Orbiter hanger Mods. Type in Virtual NumPad in the search box and an addon just for your needs will appear.

Or just click or copy/paste on this link to get Virtual NumPad...
