Stupid question maybe. I noticed whenever Orulex finds a base, it always places it in a crater. Even on Earth. Is there any way of turning that off?

I think it should fix the problem if you dowload the preset planet meshes for Earth and so on. But I don't use Orulex so I'm not sure.

A wild guess

Maybe bases always use the default Orbiter planet diameter, and you have to put them in a "crater" to place them at the right altitude compared to the surrounding terrain???

Correct. Since the Orbiter core is unaware of terrain, all buildings, pads, runways, etc are placed at "sea level".

There is an option in world studio (?) to change the "crater", you should be able to vary the size, and/or smooth it out to where it's not so visually disruptive. I haven't yet tried the Orbiter'10 Orulex, but when I get home I'll take a few screenshots and show you what I mean for Orulex under Orbiter '06.

Orbiter uses the planet diameter to place your launch pad and spacecraft at zero level on the surface.

On Earth, the diameter is sea level, so Orulex terrain is always above sea level and the base looks like a crater if located in an elevated area. Also, there's a parameter to control if the "crater" has a rim or not. If not, it's just a hole in the ground with a specified diameter.

For the Moon or Mars, Orulex can draw bellow the average planet diameter. In that case, bases can become an elevated mountain.

This would only be solved if Orbiter itself supported an elevation parameter for each base.
