Not quite - Burial at sea is only permitted as alternative if proper burial is impossible. Which in this case is already logically pretty hard to sell.

And guess what: 99% of the Al-Quaida supporters, who have never read a Quoran and mostly believe the nonsense their local priests teach them, will not know that burial at sea is legal. They will just believe his body was given to the fishes. Which is a provocation.

Islam is not a race, it is a religion. There are muslims from as diverse races as encompass the whole of humanity...

Still, I do find some of the anti-muslim or anti-Arab comments here pretty bad... morons like Osama do not speak for all muslims, nor do they speak for all Arabs.

It is like saying that christians and Europeans are insane nonsensical zealots who disrespect mourning families, all because Fred Phelps exists...

And by tradition I hope you understood the context of the situation ,and it looks like you do but still showing respect to their religion is noble in a sense or hypocritical. I'm not sure what. But in all sense, it was a logical move.

Capturing would have been better, but either way this will spawn attacks against the US. It comes down to "6 of one, or a half dozen of the other".

A live capture would have been much better for propaganda purposes, the trial would have provided a period in which Osama's twisted version of Islam could have been debunked. It already is being debunked by a few Islamic TV stations and newspapers - but the trial would have made it more interesting and increased the audience.

While killing him made him a martyr, that would have been the case even had he been tried and convicted before being executed (or even just imprisoned for life). As long as he remained free, he was useful for propaganda - the fact that Osama was able to evade capture "proved" that Allah was on his side - as well as making the US look incompetent.

What concerns me the most about this in the potential "fallout" regarding Pakistan. It's extremely hard to believe that at least some high ranking politicians and/or military officers didn't know he was there. This is tricky, if we officially accuse Pakistan of harboring Osama we will make bigger enemies of a country with a nuclear arsenal. If we don't, we demonstrate a lack of courage and conviction to our principles. It's a no-win situation for us.

I have to say that the kind of "celebration" taking place here and there does scare me. First of all those people in front of the White House. I don't consider most of them particularly educated or intelligent with all due respect. Also, the utterances of our politicians (to welcome the murder) also do scare me. Not only that the contract killing on foreign sovereign ground is a violation of international law. But this is not what I understand as constitutionality. Actually, what is taking place is a modern version of what happened on marketplaces in Europe a few centuries ago. Or in other words, a lot of people actually do not behave very different than some unaware people in the Middle East who burn US flags in front of western journalists and their cameras.

Nobody profits from the execution, except certain persons potentially during the next election in the US. But it does not at all change the world or has any positive effects on freedom and international understanding.

What I don't understand is how some people claim that this is all fake and made up to give Obama a boost in his public image. If this were false, and Osama came up tomorrow saying "I am alive," how would the United States look? Of course it is real.

Personally I would rather have him alive and send him through the legal process, but I understand the situation the soldiers going in there faced, and they responded correctly.

The relationship with Pakistan goes much deeper than that. Pakistan is the main supply hub for the war in Afghanistan. Pretty much all supplies to US and NATO tropes is dropped off at Pakistani ports and trucked through the mountains to Afghanistan. Also they continue to supply us with Al-Q targets within their country and turn a blind eye when we use drone attacks in their territory.

So basically if we ended our diplomatic relationship with Pakistan now we would be royally ed as far as the War in Afghanistan goes.

In my mind there was no doubt that the Pakistani government was not only aware of Bin Laden, but harboring him. After all they were in the business of Bin Laden hunting, with billions of US dollars falling into their hands every year to fund the search.
