Hi folks.
It's not tuesday, it's not Christmas, but here is Pictown.

"Your journey to Mars will start at home" after your download from this link.

[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=5960"]Pictown 1.1[/ame]

Thanks a lot to Dan for Pictown's hosting during Christmas, I was very pleased to offer this gift to the whole community.

And thanks to him again for the hosting of the doc, it will stay at this place :

Thanks to you for all your help, friendlyness and advices for a good optimisation and of course for UCGO that invited me to do this!
I hope it will work as fine as your addons work on any hardware.

Thanks alot Picto!

Amazing work there. I can get a play-able frame rate even on my horribly outdated computer.

Now, you put that hole there on purpose, didn't you?

Who can resist?

Of course !
As you're the first one.
Here is your price winner !

Have fun, there are a lot of little details you will enjoy in pictown.
I am happy to learn that pictown is playable on your computer.

I'm extremely impressed at how optimized this is, I remember addons like Orbiter City lagged terribly trying to do the same thing.

Out of curiosity what are you flying? That craft appears to have a pair of angled control surfaces which the DG doesnt have right?

The absolute FPS killer is too much material change as explained here:
http://www.dansteph.com/publie/tutorial/Texturing.html

So the technic was to lower as much as possible the number of materials and merge all objects that share the same.
Picto have done a very fine job at this, Pictown have only 27% more material than a DeltaGlider. (37 vs 27)
The texture are much more bigger and there is more poly but it still run fine due to this essential optimisation.

The common mistake is to keep the objects separated and multiply the materials, much more than polycount this kill the graphic card.

I just tried the town and I have one word to say: amazing! I thought that I had to use the low or medium graphics, as my computer is very basic, but it turns out that I could run the ultra graphics version with 45 FPS.
The design is awesome, and finally I have something to take as reference when I want to see my size and speed.

The town is very detailed, and I really recommend this addon to everybody:thumbup:

Very nice add-on!

This, I believe, is the Pictown in the real world: ;)

I saw the design from Loru's pic here, so I wanted to try it out on my DG. (A completely "lazy" version, without animated control surfaces).
I liked it and I've kept it ever since.

Definetely not publishable 'cause of the lazyness and it not being original work, but for my own personal use, I can do anything I want to it.
I got the vertical stabilizers from an Antonov (I think) and rescaled them.
I also "decapitated" Martin, and placed Lee's head on the pilot's body.

So there are at least 4 copyright infringements (and two horrible murders) in this next pic.

This is one of the things I love about Orbiter, everybody's installations are unique with their own little mods and custom touches to suit their tastes.

Are there any plans to reuse techniques, models, and materials from Pictown to make other cities around the world? I'd imagine the legwork is mostly done already. It would be cool to do hypersonic suborbital flights from city to city.

Hi folks, happy to get such feedbacks.

Sorindafabico, a special mention for you. When I said in beta thread that i was pretty sure, pictown could run on any hardware, I was a little bit anxious. So, I am very pleased to learn that it runs fine on your computer too.

Enjoy !
