orbiter really need more halo addons. i have made a model of the pillar of autumn in softimage xsi. i can convert it into a .obj if someone is willing to make it a spacecraft addon for orbiter.

You have to admitt that it's a rather nice mesh, though, no matter what you think of Halo and how (not) well it goes with orbiter...

they have starwars spacecraft, and our solar system isnt even in the starwars saga. where in halo it is

Hope someone picks this up and runs with it. Would love to see the Pillar in Orbiter. Been wanting it for a while. Reeeallly wish I had time to develop addons. I didn't even get my Falcon 9 project decently started before I had to drop it due to not having time.

I've been waiting for some halo addons for a while. I think the vessels from the halo series would work nicely in orbiter and they seem possible with the right technology with only a few exceptions like that space fighter thing that completely ignores physics in a vacuum. I remember that there was one project that brought the Pillar of Autumn and other halo spacecraft to orbiter but it was scrapped for some reason. Hopefully this wont receive the same fate.

edit: So far the only "working" (and I say that with quotation marks since the model glitches and makes a flat 2D triangle project out to infinity) halo vessel in Orbiter2010 is a pelican dropship.

Well...no, not really. Slipspace drives and artificial gravity (the deck structure relies on that artificial gravity) are beyond belief for the foreseeable future. Also, incredibly inefficient design (lots and lots of thick metal plating on everything adds an enormous mass.)

As far as fantasy spaceships go, though, the Autumn is one of the nicer-looking. :)

I want to argue there. But that is a matter of another thread.

Oops...word choice. I meant 'nicer' not 'nicest.'

At least it doesn't look in any way aquatic. (I'm looking at YOU, Enterprise-D!) :shifty:

I think the worst designs are those that look like aircraft.

That's a nice model, what's the poly-count?

Frankly my advice would be to run a search for vinka's Spacecraft3.Dll, It was designed to allow artists who don't know how to code to import thier creations. Read the tutorials and plug your mesh in, fine tune the variables (thrust, mass, etc...) till it handles the way you'd like and you're off!

The fact that its basically a brick will save you a lot of trouble (no atmospheric flight model required).

The DG is an aircraft.

Still, if you have a vessel that only travels through space, wings would be a pretty waste of material. ;)

One of my favorites:

well... That model still needs some touchup work. But we can make a 3d bridge out of it. I would like to see the Amber Clad.
