What ho. Sorry if this is a repeat, or is in the wrong place. I did do a search but am struggling to find the tutorial I presumably need to read.

In keeping with an overall time setting I want to play in, I'm trying to make myself a solar system that's got an Earth that's a little less hospitable than it used to be; but a Mars and a Venus(*) that're a lot more so. I've found texture for 'Green Mars' from Schmiz's page, which I assumed would simply replace the existing 'real' Mars texture with the very nice-looking green-and-watery one.

Unfortunately, it's played utter hob with my installation: my Firefly Jumbo is bouncing around like a Spacehopper on sugary drinks, my two shuttles are swirling around the side of my ship like mad things, and the last I saw of my Mule it was disappearing southwards at some scary velocity... And the less said about the vibrating surface base probably the better.

So I wondered if a) anyone had any clue what part of the Green Mars setup might have caused all this, and b) if anyone knew how I could simply replace the existing textures? I'd also like to do the same for Venus: I wanted to replace the cloud texture with a rocky surface, and tweak the atmosphere settings to make it more welcoming (even if it just means replacing Venus' with Earth's - I'd be doing the same to Mars).

I know there're some nice alternative textures available for Celestia at the Motherlode. There was at one point an interesting 'Snowball Earth' one that I thought I'd quite like to use. Does anyone know if these can be altered to fit Orbiter?

(* The footnote I'd planned - but forgot when I first posted - was something to the effect that I know it'd take more than a bit of algae to make Venus more hospitable, but I'm doing dramatic licence.)

They can and i can do that for you if you want.
Thank you, that's very kind; but I don't want to have to trouble you for everything I want to experiment with. Is there a tutorial that would show me what I need and how to do this for myself?
