The Progress is attached to the Pirs docking port.

Progress M-03M delivered more than 2400 kg of cargo to the station, including propellant, oxygen, food, scientific equipment, additional hardware for ISS RS and USOS, crew parcels. The docking sequence was automatic, under control of the Mission Control Center.

The Progress was launched by the Soyuz rocket from Baikonur on Oct. 15, marking the 24th Russian launch in 2009.

Hi all, Sparky Mark here from Kromtau, Northwest Kazakhstan. Anyway whilst working the other morning I and other work mates were taken by surprise to an event overhead like nothing I had seen before, luckily I managed to capture part of it on video and thought some of you may like a diffrent perspective of the soyuz rocket launch on October 15. I appoligise if he language offends, but it was taken at work, and Aussies will be Aussies and we are miners, so they can be fairly descriptive in their observations. It was quite funny as no one had a clue what it was we were witnessing. The previous pictures on the thread of what some call Korolev's Cross or Jelly fish is what first caught everyones attention as it grew in size in the pre-dawn sky. Anyway hope you enjoy the post. Regards.

Hello, Sparky Mark! Wow, that's one great video! It's only a little shameful that none of your guys have been able to reach for the camera a couple of minutes earlier. Otherwise, it's a great documentation and our forum should be proud to be the place of your choise to post the vid to! :speakcool:

If you spend much time at Kazakhstan, you might want to get warned about Baikonur launches in advance, and thus my effort of keeping track of Russian launches here can be of use for you.

ROLFLMAO

It is good to see you on the forum. Real Aussie stuff :P

Will you be sticking around on the forum? ;)

Unfortunately my time here in Kazakhstan is coming to an end and I am heading back Home to Australia on November 3. I think another launch is planned around middle of November so will miss all the action, not to mention last weeks flight was so well timed to be launched in the breaking dawn with clear skies. The next fortnight here we are in for snow, rain and clouds, :(
Anyway once back in Aus I will pop back into the forum and check out the latest news. Cheers. Mark.

Flight of the automatic space freighter Progress M-03M as a part of the International Space Station is nearing its end. Today on April 22, at 20 hours 29 minutes 30 seconds by Moscow Summer Time (16:29:30 GMT)
the undocking command will be issued, and 3 minutes later the Progress space ship will separate from the port of the Pirs docking module where it stayed since last year's October, 18.

During the subsequent autonomous flight of the space ship, Radar-Progress experiment will be carried out till April, 27. The goal of this experiment is determining temporal and spatial dependencies of density, temperature, and ion composition of the local disturbances in Earth's ionosphere that are produced by the space ship's engines' exhausting. There parameters will be measured by RAN incoherent dissipation radar located in Irkutsk region.

The experiment is carried out by Central Scientific Institute of Machine Building (Korolev, Moscow region), used to be known as NII-88. Once it's over, the freighter will be deorbited and burn up over a designated area in Southern Pacific.

Wow, 6 months docked to the ISS - this Progress has seen all 3 Space Shuttles! Amazing!

ST: Out of interest, do you know if this is the longest ever Progress flight to date? Thanks!

And Progress has just undocked!

ST: Out of interest, do you know if this is the longest ever Progress flight to date? Thanks!

No, far from it.

The longest Progress staying docked to an orbital station was Progress M-47 (ISS-10P) in 2003, the total duration of flight was 206 days and 12 hours (3224 orbits).

If we include here abandoned ships, there was Progress M-17, which was launched on Mar 31, 1993, undocked from the Mir on Aug 11, 1993 and then was just left drifting because it was short on fuel to do a deorbit burn. It lasted till uncontrolled reentry on Mar 03, 1994, totaling 336 days and 23 hours of flight (5301 orbits).

The longest flying freighter capsule ever was TKS Cosmos-1686 (1985-1991). After Salyut-7's abandoning and boosting the station to a higher orbit with its engines, it was left docked to it, until they naturally reentered, still coupled. The total flight duration was 1958 days and 19 hrs (30367 orbits).

Thank you very much for that info, ST!

Here's a fantastic photo of the undocking from Soichi Noguchi via Twitter!

Progress M-03M/Progress 35 was de-orbited today (Tue. 27 Apr.).

So long, loyal Progress - you were a good ship! :salute:

Deorbit burn initiated at 22:05:00 MSK (18:05:00 UTC).
Burn duration was 168.6 seconds.
Achieved delta V was 82.3 m/s.
Centre of deposit of the vessel's remnants was 42° 51' S, 141° 26' W.
This point was to be reached at 22:50:56 MSK (18:50:56 UTC).

A photo history tribute to Progress M-03M/35P (cue elevator music)! :P
