I was reading an article about a new plastic that can withstand the dangerous bombardment of solar radiation in space better than aluminium can, another plus it said is that it is a lot lighter, you can read about it here
An idea that occured, was what if you could produce a magnetic field with sufficient flux density to provide a similar protection that which we have on earth? I know that the magnetic field of our planet takes the brunt of the radiation and the physical (seeable) atmosphere absorbs some. I'm not sure as to how much, but i think it is small compared to the mag field.
Thoughts?
p.s. forgive me if im in the wrong thread here...
