Hi All,

recently I've got two 2GB DDR2 PC800 RAM modules as a gift. But my motherboard(ASUS P5GD2-X, Intel 915P chipset) supports only PC400, PC533 and PC600 (that's written in manual). The question is, can I use these modules in my machine (not necessary on its full speed; e.g., a module lowers it's frequency etc.)?

I dont think you can but you can try just don't break the ram sockets because if you do that you wont be able to use your computer at all

If they physically fit in the socket, then will probably work, but only at the fastest speed the motherboard supports. DIMMs have pins and slots which prevent incompatible versions from being inserted into the sockets.

However, it's possible that the motherboard chipset will see the speed data from the DIMM and just barf instead of picking the next lowest speed. It's unlikely to cause any harm other than refusing the boot though.
