I just restarted reading "Rainbox Six" by Tom Clancy, after I gave up about ten years ago after only 50 pages. My English must have gotten better in the last years.

The problem with "Moon is a harsh mistress" is that it's written from the pov of a lunar inhabitant that talks kind of a pidgin english... I have to pay attention that I don't start talking like that

NASA has concluded that corrective action is appropriate in the Government Accountability Office bid protest of Exploration Systems & Technology, Inc. NASA determined that a compliance issue requires the termination of the contract for the Constellation Space Suit System with Oceaneering International, Inc. of Houston for the convenience of the government

I still catch myself calling people "cobbers" from time to time.

Anyone here read H.P Lovecraft's stories?

LOL I had the same experience with that book. I made it about two chapters in the first time I tried to read it a few years ago.

I picked it up again back in April while my daughter was in the hospital. Gave me something to do at her bedside when she was sleeping. I made it about halfway through before she was discharged and have not had time to pick it up again since, which I hate because it really started getting good a few chapters in and I was getting very involved with the story by the halfway point. I hate not having time to read it. I really enjoy reading Tom Clancy. Patriot Games is one of my favorites. I have a huge collection of Clancy books at home that I just have not had time to read, which is frustrating.

Has anyone ever pulled a Pugachev's Cobra or Kulbit Maneuver in Orbiter?

Pugachev's Cobra requires modeling of stall conditions, which Orbiter does not do on its own. A custom dll may do it. I started a spirited thread about this on m6.

That will be great if we had things like wind resistance and more atmospheric stuff for orbiter during atmoshperic flight. Imagine trying to land a DGIV in a wind gust.

I guess it's not technically possible because of the engine (of the game), but my best was in Kev33's Su-47 (Why he calls it an S-37 I don't know) but it was basically a Cobra except I went up 400 m. I found some awesome videos of it though (well, bad quality, good stunts) [ame="http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=4089356248269139523&ei=4FiuSMmMOIzYqwO7t4C4Aw&hl=en"]Su-30[/ame]

Very cool. The old MiG-29 add-on for Falcon 3.0 was able to reach extremely high angles of attack, enabling you to do a similar maneuver, and it would bleed off energy very quickly. In dogfights you had to be careful not to overdo it on the yanking and banking, lest you find yourself in a near stall with an AI F-15 pilot shooting Sidewinders up your butt. What an awesome game that was.

And how I would love to fly a real MiG-29.

That was absolutely amazing. It was incredible that the aircraft was moving at 40MPH at one point (per the video) and still seemed to be very much in control! :speakcool:

Oh, how I wish I could fly like that... :(

Well, you could fly a Piper Cub at 40 mph no problem. In a stiff headwind the plane actually flies backwards over the ground.

Then again, a Piper Cub doesn't go anywhere near mach 1 :P

Piper Cub or SU-30? I'll take the fighter aircraft, thanks. :P

Waiting for the bot to post the new Orbithangar release threads is maddening.

Mars

I've just looked out the window after spending the night messing around Saturn with two Shuttle A2's, and I saw Mars rising to the East, followed by a beautiful sunrise. I think I'll go fly to Mars next.

Oh, good morning. And hail probe.

That pizza in the fridge is looking mighty stale though...
