Error Random Crash: Missing Orangesoil/Tree Textures

Hi everyone,

Occassionally when running certain scenarios, Orbiter crashes randomly. I check the Orbiter log which tells me that an Orangesoil and Tree texture is missing. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Missing textures don't cause a crash. Can you post the entire orbiter.log file?

The missing textures are not to blame.
Orulex 1.2 had an experimental props support, like rocks and trees, that is cut out of the release.

If you want these errors gone, you need to turn it back on - download this:
http://orbides.1gb.ru/orbf/oru-props.zip
And set Props=1 in the orulex.cfg

It's unlikely that the crashes are related to it though.
 
Thanks. Well you're both right.

I installed the textures and such but Orbiter still crashed.

I guess I just assumed it was the textures because it screamed "ERROR" in the Orbiter log.

Hmm... well I'll guess this warrents further investigation.

The crashes (so far) only seem to happen in scenarios involving the XR2, when inside Earth's atmosphere.

Ok hunch time.... do you have any zero byte size config files?
 
Aah, yes I do. I checked and found 3 right off the bat that are 0 KB:

Sol_ProjectX15
transx
 
and are those files referenced in any scn file that is crashing?
 
I don't think so, as far as I can tell. How would I check exactly?

I temporary deleted the three files and tested it as well, but it still crashed.

Scenario file format is vessel:config so anything after the colons points to a config. If one of the zero byte files is listed in the .scn then that is the fix.

Exactly what I'd expect. Did any of the 0 byte configs appear again?
 
I couldn't locate the 0 bit files anywhere in the scn files unfortunately. The 0 bit files didn't come back after deletion either, but the Orbiter log showed different text after crashing when the files were removed.

Also I'm not sure if it matters, but I looked at a clean installation of Orbiter, and I found the 0 bit transx file in the Config folder.
