I have a question arising from a project I'm working on. Does anyone know any good sources for capabilities of military radar in the 1940s -- WWII and after? I'm looking for both ground-based and airborne, and something that would help me get a grasp on the evolution of the capabilities of these systems from c. 1940 to c. 1950.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know the specifics, but during WWII there were ground and ship based radar that could detect aircraft at over a hundred miles and aircraft sets had a range of dozens of miles.

I'm sure there are books on the subject and there is always google and wiki.

I've googled a lot, but finding specific discussion of range has been difficult. There seems to be more on ranges of airborne radar, but all in articles about the aircraft.

I think there is a standard book on the topic, but I have forgotten it's name...

There is a German book about the history of radar and counterradar developments from 1977, but it does not look available.
