I think this is new, can't remember reading it before.

"Solar Power Satellites and Spaceplanes
The SKYLON Initiative"

N.

Reading through this, and wondering why the mechanical/electrical rotary joints are not co-axial(fig. 5)?

I would be betting that Ares has a better chance rather than Skylon...

You may well be right, there's not much interest in spaceflight in the UK. Hope they make it, Alan Bond has been at it as long as I can remember

Edit: From the excalibur-almaz press release:

About Excalibur Almaz
[FONT=Century Gothic,Century Gothic][FONT=Century Gothic,Century Gothic]EA has ownership of several Almaz spacecraft, including reusable reentry vehicles (RRVs) and space stations

space stations?

Febuary 2010 news.
Work has started on the payload provision based on the interfaces proposed in Revision 1 of the SKYLON Users’ Manual. The public consultation produced no suggestions for any changes whatsoever
Means one of two things:
1. They did such good work that no changes were necessary; or
2. No-one wants to use their launch vehicle anyway

The latter seems more likely

Could well be, I think they'll have more interest when the Sabre engine is actually producing results.
Hope they keep going, this company seems to have gone quiet:

Thats about it in the UK for launchers.

IMO for Skylon team to succeed they should get their SABRE engine prototype built and tested as fast as possible. If they manage that then there is actually a chance they might succeed since the engine is most critical component. That engine could also be used in high speed aircraft. Air Force might be interested in SABRE engine without the rocket part for long range high speed bomber. Selling an engine would generate the necessary cash to continue development on Skylon.

I don't know about military applications for the Sabre engine, but I agree its crucial for the success of RE. If they can't get that working, then they are just another ideas and cgi company.

Thanks TB, it came good. I was hopng for the new Skylon related animation they promised last month, but that message seems to have gone away!

Narrated by Brian Blessed.

He sounds almost anodyne, well, compared to this:
