Hi,
It is possible to use Orbiter as a real-time rocket launch tracker like the one from United Launch Alliance when they launch the Delta II and Delta IV ?
Yes. Practically yes, if you have the telemetry and a plug-in or interface in the vessel module to follow the telemetry and use orbiter only for interpolation between updates.
But that is no simulator, this is just visualization.
Orbiter could be an awesome visualization tool! I would love to see a shuttle launch and docking with ISS in real-time, using both NASA TV and Orbiter, for better, and practically impossible angles.
Yes, visualization.
I was thinking to make a pre-programmed launch sequence and start it at the real-time liftoff. But to make that some work has to be done.
Let's take for example the recent launch, GOES-P on a Delta IV.
Here is the mission booklet : http://ulalaunch.com/site/docs/missionbooklets/DIV/div_goesp_mob.pdf
If you read it, you will see all launch and orbit parameters:inclination, apogee, perigee, Meco, Seco, 2nd ignition, ETC.
It is possible to make a guidance file based on that? And how?
As far i know, no.
But if you have that booklet with the launch parameters it is teoretically possible to make a guidance file.
All I ask is how to do it...you know, practically
Is there any tool for creating guidance files?
if you are a member of www.nasaspaceflight.com and have access to L2 you can download a plugin for Google Earth and see 'live' (well delayed by about a minute) trajectory and visualisation data from Shuttle launches and landings.
