Hi
I had a HP CRT monitor with the old VGA connection, and orbiter ran perfectly. But, when I installed a Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ 22" monitor, which has a DVI connection, Orbiter stopped working. Every time I press the "Launch" button I receive an error message indicating that "orbiter exe. stopped working."

Orbiter log:

I've never changed the Orbiter installation, it's the exact installation that ran on the CRT monitor. The current monitor's drivers are up to date and so it is the graphics driver. PLEASE HELP! What could cause Orbiter not to run on this monitor?

PC Specs:

Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9550 Quad-Core 2.20 GHz

RAM: 5 GB

Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 9600 GSO 768 MB

System: Windows Vista 64-bit

Did you happen to have the 3D Stereo mode enabled? Turn it off and see if that fixes matters. remember that Orbiter is DX7 based, so things like stereo mode aren't going to play well with it.

I can't imagine how just switching monitors could cause a CTD. However, make sure that 'Always enumerate devices' is checked in the 'Video' tab and be sure to select a video mode that your new monitor supports, or better yet, try starting out in 'Windowed' mode.

If you've plugged the monitor into a different slot than the one you had before, Orbiter under Vista may have trouble recognising it. I had this exact problem attempting to use triple monitors under Vista.

Actually I tried orbiter before installling the stereoscopic 3D driver, and didn't work.

Me either, I was very surprised how just a mere change in monitors made Orbiter crash. "Always enumerate devices" has always been checked. I tried Orbiter with the resolution it had before with the CRT monitor 1024 x 768, and it crashed; I tried Orbiter again but with the resolution of the new monitor 1680 x 1050, and it also crashed. Annoyingly, it does work on windowed mode, the problem is in full screen.

Probably it was the change from VGA to DVI, under Vista, that made Orbiter crash. I was wondering if changing the graphics card would do the job. I was thinking of buying a GeForce 9800 GTX+.
