Who have benefited greatly from government assistance?
Did you go to school? Did you drive, walk, or ride a bike on public roads? Do you feel like if you call 911 someone will help you? I know I benefited greatly from public assistance. I went to a public school (for 13 years, then I went to a public university for another 4). I drive my car on the streets paid for (and maintained by) the government. Just last week, there was a shooting outside my house and when I called the police they came right away and kept a patrol car parked outside for the duration of the night.

I consider it a point of pride that I make an income that allows me to contribute back to the system that educated, transported, and protected me. The company I work for hired me because I was educated, they are also the recipients of government assistance in that way.

And with the exception of the elderly.(They paid their taxes) The person receiving it or the taxpayers that work who's take home paycheck (after taxes are deducted) is now considerably smaller to a point now where people that work now need government assistance?

Again, if you value schools, roads, and emergency services then you have to value government assistance. Personally, I don't trust people my age (25) to make responsible decisions with their retirement savings. There is a reason why my demographic is so highly targeted... we spend money like drunken sailors. I feel safer knowing that I am paying into a system that will be there for me when I retire and that I pay money into my own retirement fund.

I also know that structurally, not everyone is as lucky as I am. I had well-off parents (my dad actually had his college paid for by the government because he was a poor, but promising scholar). He worked very hard, and made good money, but without the government to help him out 38 years ago, I wouldn't be here today. I want to see everyone in this country have the opportunity to succeed, but I want to make sure the playing field is level so that even that a kid from a poor neighborhood in D.C. who grows up around gunshots has a good education and a chance to better them-self. That requires hard work, parenting, and government assistance.

So now with more people to pay for they take more taxes out to fund it!
We need higher tax rates in this country, look at what our rates are now vs. the regan-clinton eras.
Or how about the people that come here illegally
And do our cheap labor (and pay taxes)
and have babies
American Citizens (don't like it, change the Constitution)
and are absorbed into the system that add even further to the problem? Where's the benefit?
Our entire heritage as a country is based off immigration and widening our culture. Our nation has benefited greatly from the patchwork of cultures and ideas that paint our country's tapestry. I know plenty of children of immigrants (both legal and illegal) who have gone on to do great things with their lives.
