Do you think that hardware prices will go down in a foreseeable future ? Any advice on that welcome. ?

I doubt it will go down before 2025. There are many Fabs under construction now, but most of them won't be producing in the next years.

Had to get a new laptop for my wife. I found comparable hardware to my now 5 year old laptop at comparable prices to back then. At work, we started hunting for raspberry pi contingents to ensure delivery of orders. We were "lucky" to get a lot of 100 3B+, at 150 bucks a pop.
So yeah, I'd say it's a pretty bad time. Don't buy anything if you don't have to.

...like the battery of a pacemaker? Yeah, there are some exceptions to my rule ;)

... or a hard drive you don't want to crash with all your add-on projects on it...

My co-workes (and I) would say: "Kein backup - kein Mitleid"[*] :D

[*] translates to: "no backup - no pity"
