What is the answer to 48÷2(9+3)

If I take the [math]\div[/math] sign as serialized operator for [math]\frac{48}{2(9+3)}[/math] it'd be 2. After all, the sign is a pictogram for this usage...

Yes, but even then you have to determine how much goes in the denominator.

You could just as easily convert 48[math]\div[/math]2(9+3) to [math]\frac{48}{2}(9+3)[/math], and by the standard order of operations this would be the correct interpretation.
