Anyone know of any good simulation games/programs? I don't really care about what kind, but preferably a free one that has damage/something similar.

I did find one (Universe Sandbox - http://universesandbox.com/) but I don't want to pay $30. I also have Rigs of Rods, which if you have a fast computer is pretty fun.

FlightGear - http://www.flightgear.org/
I haven't flied the new verison yet, but personally i like it. You can also download exra aircraft and world scenery. There was no damage (as far as i can recall) in the previous verison tho', except if you hit the ground :P

simutrans - http://www.simutrans.com/

A traffic simulation/strategy game along the lines of OpenTTD. I currently enjoy the pak128.britain ... Very British feeling.

Well here's a strange one for ya' --

Yeh, it simulates you getting blown out of a jetfighter! I can see myself chomping down potatochips and creamcheese and repeatedly doing this all day long!

I keep a list. Here are some of the entries. All of them are fantastic. I'm especially addicted to Total Extreme Wrestling and Extreme Warfare Revenge.

SPORTS MANAGEMENT SIMS
Puresim Baseball
Once, you had to pay for it, but now it's free. One of the best baseball team management games ever. This thing simulates everything from games, coaching, finances, recruiting, draft, and pretty much everything you can think of in the day to day ownership of a professional baseball team. It's a fantastic sim, especially if you're a baseball fan. Just go to their "Older Games" area on their website and download it from there.

Lots of awesome addons, player pictures, and ball parks can be downloaded from here:

UFL
A Football Management sim written in visual basic. You can either play this thing as a game, or you can use it to simply manage your virtual football league. It's not pretty to look at, but it's really well done and has quite a few options.

If you go into the TEW forum, the monthly real world stat update can be found usually at the top of the list.

Picture Packs, historical, and fantasy databases are here:

The best picture pack for use in either EWR or TEW2005

If you want any updates that you can't find, ask me. I have them ALL.

5th Generation Wrestling Simulator (5GWS)
Another good wrestling promotion simulator. Although it's dated, it's still fun to play. The next version is coming out within the next few months and it looks incredible. You can download 5GWS and it's database update here. Just sign up for their forum and go to the "downloads" area.

Ultimate MMA Simulator 2
I'm impressed with this Ultimate fighting simulator. It has an extensive database of real world organizations and fighter and delivers pretty realistic results. It also includes editors allowing you to alter or add whatever content you wish.

Stellar College Basketball
College basketball sim with all the teams. There are also addons available that give you all the best all time players as well.

TRAIN SIMULATORS

Open BVE
Open BVE is a train simulator. It, like Orbiter has a large following. There are lots of trains, train routs, and scenery to download for it. It's very well done. Driving a train is a lot more challenging than you would think.

SimSig
Who would have thought that such a thing can be so fun and challenging ? SimSig is a train signal operation simulator that puts you in control of the signal controls for an entire railway. It actually can get pretty hectic and it's fun ! There are also extra routs to download for it. It also supports multiplayer.

DRIVING SIMULATORS

Motorsport
A cool driving sim with a lot of cars and maps to download. The aim of this project is to create the most accurate driving experience ever done.
http://www.motorsport-sim.org/

TORCS
TORCS is a car racing simulator. It simulates track racing like NASCAR, and Formula 1, etc.. stuff. There are many tracks and cars to download for it and it has multiplayer capabilities.
http://torcs.sourceforge.net/

Racer
Racer is another race car simulator. It's still in Beta, but it looks promising. My computer has a hard time running it.

VDrift
Another racing sim. This one however focuses on the ultra-light drifting style of racing. It's a LOT of fun sliding your car sideways at 80mph through every turn.

POLITICAL SIMULATORS

Conflict: Middle East Political Simulator (The Remake)
This is a fan remake of the still playable classic that is long out of production. The remake is excellently done and has enhanced graphics and more options than the original. In this game, you are the newly elected prime minister of Israel and you have to deal with the day to day political climate and events of the Middle East with the goal of being re-elected. The random nature and realism of this game create an addictive and endlessly re-playable experience.

BUSINESS SIMULATORS

Informatist
Informatist is a fun, massively multiplayer business simulator. You invest in stocks, strike deals and do hostile takeovers of other companies, and handle the day to day business of your company. Considering the fact that every company is run by another player, the possibilities and replayablity of this sim is endless. The accuracy of it's online stock market and business models are reasons that actual business students and classes use this game as a learning tool. It's really fun to rack up millions and millions of dollars (I wish it was real).

Dwarf Fortress

It's a simulation of permanently-drunk dwarves trying to establish a settlement while fighting off goblins, undead elephants, suicidal cats and incompetent engineers with a tendency to re-route magma flows through nobles' bedrooms.

FSX has sharper graphics (although no pc in the world can max it out without horrible lag) - but FlightGear, as far as i tried it, has a more flexible simulation...

and Flightgear is open-source, something that M$FS will probably never be...

still, FSX is way further ahead in addons and such, and it has better support for home cockpit setups... so i still stick with it

yet, for things that go beyond mach 1, the best sim available is this here space flight simulator

What do you mean, "deeper simulation?"

On my 5-year-old computer, FSX also ran better than FlightGear. With FlightGear on lowest settings I couldn't get more than a handful of frames per second.

from what i've seen, FlightGear seems to support things like thrust vectoring, a feature that most FSX pilots complain to be missing...

not sure why it ran so slow in your computer... in mine it did just fine... it has not much trouble running FSX in mid-high setup, tho...

but i though it was a nice thing it offered more than one option of flight modeling and all... it seemed indeed more flexible...
but i think it's a long ways off before it can be thought of as a possible FSX successor, even though M$ shut FSX down... it still looks like it's gonna be a while

This same argument is often used to claim that X-Plane is better than FSX. Problem is, there's all of...how many airplanes that make use of thrust vectoring? It's really not a feature that would be widely used anyway.

indeed, its not very common ... you're right on that one!

but i really hoped someone would devise a way to adapt things like buoyancy, and other dynamics which FSX simply omits from it's flight modeling... then FSX would be the "ultimate" simulator we all wanted it to be...

if M$ were to learn a thing or two from Google about "not being evil", they should perhaps release their recently-abandoned sim to open-source... but i figure that's one dream too far:rolleyes:

Its older than some of our members, but the venerable and usually warmly remembered Falcon 4 is in its latest reincarnation, and its freeware.

http://www.freefalcon.com/

After 12 years the hundreds of volunteers that have worked on it have nearly ironed out the bugs from the original commercial release. And given some recent events it seems perhaps more plausible than ever, as it simulates a conflict on the Korean peninsula.

Aside from the detail of the avionics modelling, the dynamic campaign mode is worth the price of admission alone, you never know what will happen next and doing the job done right and getting back to base in one piece is as challenging as ever. Despite its age and a number of bugs, it holds up well against the latest DCS products.

I'll vouch for Falcon 4, great game! Insane learning curve, though. But then, that's just like Orbiter... :)

I'm a little surprised this one hasn't come up

YS flight

For all its insane simplicity its got a huge community More addons than Orbiter, Online games lets you do what you want period. Wanna Fly a 747-400? Do it. Wanna Fly a F-22A in a dog fight. By all means.
