Skydiving Jump

Breaking the sound barrier with one's body sounds a bit dicey. I hope he's got a way of controlling his attitude and preventing spinning.

Well, I hope he really listens to Kittinger one day. There had been a good reason why he had the stabilization chute, this guy wants to leave on the ground.

Something about spinning. ;)

Well, it's not like I have anything important to say.

I know what my conservation with me would sound like, when I do such a jump.

"Oh my god, oh my god, yeeeeaaaaaah. Don't forget to pull the handle. Well, can wait a moment. Hell, yeah, what a view. Is it time to pull the handle already? Maybe I have a few moments. Hey, what is this thing that is coming closer? It looks large and solid...I think I'll call it ground. Oh no, not again!"

Mine would be something like, "Hey, what are those mountain goats doing so far up here in these clouds?" <splat>

The jump has been scrubbed due to high clouds. I hope he doesn't have to postpone for another 2 years like last time.

Yeah. You're talking to yourself and then all of a sudden you can't listen anymore...

I do this every day, and my life would probably be about one million times simpler if I occasionally listened to myself ;)

I like the note about how his parachute would have been set to automatically open at a certain altitude if for some reason he passed out during the fall, yet there was no mechanism to eject him from the capsule if he passed out during the ascent...

I wonder how long it would take for the helium to dissipate (if it would dissipate at all thru whatever balloon material he's using)... If it didn't dissipate... would he be floating for a really long time?

Weather balloons keep rising until the falling air pressure makes the balloons expand to the point of disintegration (at about 40km altitude). Perhaps a similar thing would happen with this balloon. It still wouldn't solve the problem of being stuck in the capsule though.

I don't think passing out during ascent would be of great concern because he would be breathing O2. I believe the risk of passing out on descent is mainly due to centrifugal forces caused by uncontrollable spinning.

Yeah, there was a story about him on the local news yesterday; he was going to launch not far from here.
