some girl got head trauma at sxm

Ouch. Now, she did everything she could for that to happen.

There's a lesson in this; stay a way from the back of a jet engine ! Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

There's no one to blame in there but that girl herself. Since she wasn't too careful about going around the back end of the jet. Don't these people realize that a jet with its' engine running is really dangerous?

But despite her thoughtless act, airport should not be to close to open road where are people couple of meter from runway and close to engine exhaust?!
Maybe there are no better location for airport runway there but still I think airport should make wall or something to reduce engine exhaust power and to avoid people been dust by sand and to avoid beach been blown away from the land.

Excellent point.

They have something of that sort in Lindberg Field, here at San Diego. There's a jet blast deflector just prior to the fence and on the outer side of the fence is a parking lot and sidewalks.

They need to put up something like that at the St. Maartens Airport (Princess Juliana International Airport) where I can see that there's nothing between the runway and the fence. You can see tons of people that are on the beach side getting blasted by the jet blast at times.

Yeah, that airport's proximity to a tourist beach is ridiculous and dangerous.

Not as dangerous as being stupid enough to stand close behind a starting jet and expect no hot storm. There should be less warning signs in the world for inducing thinking.

1: will you really place a 3 meter high wall near a runway?

2: there are signs with this warning: Jet blast of departing and arriving aircraft can cause severe physical harm resulting in extreme bodily harm and/or death.

3: Its not very smart to get so close to a runway. I think everybody knows the risk to stay very close to a runway.

.

No,that's not my job.

There is already fence assume 2.5 meter hight, don't know why wall can't stand there?
Of course it won't be a brick wall...or people need to wear helmet.

Hmmm... seems pretty stupid to have the bit of beach there open for tourists, but not only because of jet exhaust...

Well, I guess those kind of beachs are a turistic attraction for weird people.

Or for airplanes fans that like to swim and watch takeoffs/landings.

Notice that the beach itself is quite steep, so the "normal" people that have the reflex to run near the water risk little.

I used to kick around this idea of cooking food with an idling jet engine. Burgers, hotdogs and such would be done in seconds, but they would be flithy and taste awful:(

Back on topic: brilliant idea that gal had:rolleyes: I think I'll go climb up inside an XR-5 engine...

Exhaust is not the only thing - what if a plane comes short, i.e. in an emergency?
A case of avoidable casualties vs having fun.

I don't even want to imagine the hearing damage that is probably done at that beach.

probably, it is not worse than the lifetime achievements of Jim Marshall.

No they don't. How many people even understand the basics of how plane flies?

Additional safety features including blast deflectors should be installed as soon as possible.

Or maybe:
