Songs to listen to while flying

60s-80s rock.

Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Elvis, Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Doors, so on.

For lift-off and ascent, I have this one...(can't understand why I didn't mention it yet)

If I'm chillin to some balletic orbital manouvers it's normally something Like Ludevico Einaudi. If It's something more intense, like a launch, then I might fire up drum & bass or somesuch. Not a huge fan of lyrics while I 'fly', plus classical and dance tracks tend to be longer in length (prog-rock aside that is ;)).

My playlist:

Launch:
Guns N' Roses- Paradise City (EPIC) :P

Earth orbit:
Bach- Air on a G String
Earth Song- Micromegas II
Earth Song- Outer Limits
David Bowie- Space Oddity (nice chill-out song)
Voyage to the Planets OST

Reentry:
Armageddon OST- Long Distance Goodbye (nice to hear when coming back from a long journey)

Landing/Splashdown:
Armageddon OST- Landing

oh definitely Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum. It was even released in 69

Some people also think "Born in the USA" is a hymn to the USA. ;)

Reagan's campaign people thought so...

There was an interesting piece on public radio yesterday about people's impressions and stereotypes. One guy had written an article for a magazine a few years ago in which he recounted his visit to Germany. He said that Germans tend to view Americans as bigoted, overweight, non-smoking retards, and that they think everything Americans do is based on cowboy movies. Of course, 99% of all Americans know absolutely zero about cowboys nor do they care about how John Wayne used to handle things in a fictional story.

He then went into his own stereotypes of Germans based on his weeks-long stay: Germans can be drunk and not let it show, late night TV sucks, and the coolest thing: Heavy metal is still really popular and current in Germany, whereas in the US, heavy metal is mostly popular among the 80's generation and doesn't get as much airplay as it used to.

Anyway, to get back on topic, I have letely been playing the 2001 soundtrack, especially the lesser-known and longer tracks like Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite.

But when I'm working in Anim8or, it's a different story: I use Pandora.com and listen to underground hip hop like Kool Kieth/Dr. Octagon, etc.

Gansta rap. That's said.

I'll listen to it when I can. I am about to get off.

Not really music, but I want to modify the DG-IV ascent completed announcement so over it you hear "They turned off the gravity, like in Halo!"

Short flights only...quiet intro.

Ace Frehley - Rocket Ride

Works thematically (just take it at it's surface level, and it works thematically hehe ;) ), even though I tend to like more trippy techno when in space.

Here's another, but this one really can be taken at face value. hehe :D

Ace Frehley - Into the Void -

Don't know if this has been posted here before (probably it was):

It was/is (?) from a german show which was on TV late at night... I think its quite matching to Orbiter out-of-vessel-views :)

One more -

It's like I told ya, I came from Outer Space
that's how I know your name
I'm sick and tired of the human race
I wanna take you away

Ace's new single, Outer Space -

This will be going into my play list as soon as I can get time to get it in the right format and add it.

And the new CD will be going into my CD collection when it goes on sale in a few weeks too.

(BTW, this song is freely available on his myspace page)
