New Administrator Named in Charge of Soviet Space Program; American Government Worries
April 11th, 1987, Moscow, SSSR
In Soviet Russia, there are reports that a new administrator has been placed in charge of the Soviet Space Program. He is named Ilyiaschev Ofvach, a man aged 37, who has been working for the program since 21. Officials say that the Space Program will see a huge boost, and with an experienced man working, they are saying, they expect to possibly arrive at the moon by 1999. If so, that would be an astonishing completion for the space program, in twelve years.
Ofvach, said in a reported announcement, “The Soviet Union has seen a decline in its space program, but soon we shall reach the moon, comrades. Our newest rocket, as we call it the Energiya, will be launching in two weeks, and is expected to be moon-capable. We stand united against the capitalists, but soon Mother Russia, will arrive in the future, and the capitalists will face our power. I also wish to say, that similar to Comrade Stalin did, I will be setting periods of Five-Year Plans. We will have a goal for 1990, and then it will be five years each. Now, we shall look into the future, comrades.”
The American Government and NASA have expressed worry, with the loss of Challenger, and the increase in spending by the SSSR for the SSP. With an expected new American shuttle mission in early 1989, they see that the Soviet Union can take a great lead, and start a new space race. They have promised, that they will also launch a return to the moon goal by 1998. Possibly, this may be one of the worst outcomes that could have happened.
