hi,

i messed my orbiter installation up once again, so i was looking at orbit hangar for the adons i used to have installed, when i found this beautifull addon.

it's so much fun, my best alt was 100,4 km but i wan't more :)

i found two videos on youtube showing the SSO in orbiter. the first video pulls very gently up the second flys pretty much like me, i picht up as soon as possible to 90°.

could someone tell me what values i need to check to find the best ascent

thanks for reading

Watch the AoA on SurfaceMFD. If your AoA gets to high (you are pulling up too fast) you'll increase drag, and get a lower apogee. If you pull up too slow, you'll spend more time in thicker air and suffer more drag. An AoA of around 7 degrees would be a good start, and try using different AoA's until you get the highest apogee.

I tried this addon but found it impossible to pilot SpaceShipOne from inside the cockpit because the camera is positioned right behind a virtual pilot's head! Your view of outside is totally obscured, making navigation pretty impossible unless you switch to external view. If this could be fixed I'd recommend it as an addon.

Hi Clavius,

A fix for this problem can be found/downloaded here:
http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showpost.php?p=26269&postcount=6

SS1 was made for an older Orbiter version. The current Orbiter introduced this problem. The fix above, replaces a texture, so your view is not obscured anymore.

Once I have time for this, I will recompile the addon with the new Orbiter SDK and Orbiter Sound SDK, and upload to Orbit Hanger. Most likely, I'll wait with this until the upcoming Orbiter/API is released. Will keep you informed.

best regards,
mcduck

flying without the cockpit camera was a really nice practice to fly with instruments only. thanks for the replacement texture, makes landing easier.
my personal record is now 106.8 km altitude, unfortunately i didn't managed to land on the runway ;)

this is really a great add-on :speakcool:
