Last week I created my own space plane. Bigger than the Space Shuttle, the Cygnus is the futuristic Space Shuttle. Featuring an EDO-pallet for long duration missions, the Cygnus can spend 2 months in LEO. The scram engines can help during the landing. And it's payload bay is very big. Here is a diagram:

It's just a simple diagram, but I want to create this spacecraft. Any ideas, help or comments?
Thanks!

Will it be configuration file, Spacecraft3 or '.DLL' based?

Actually Spacecraft3 because I can't create .dll files, but if someone can help me it would be awesome...

We're on the same ship mate! :tiphat:
I heard they use C++ for that, but, err... Coding. Not easy for a modeller (like me!)

~Best of luck and best regards, Oz.

Can someone out there help me with this project? Maybe create the .dll files soon, or at least some tips of what I need to use for create a module...
Thanks!

Artlav has a SC3 to .dll converter [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=5177"]here[/ame].

Stop worrying about a .dll. If you want a coder, make some bait to draw one in, like a good mesh with pretty textures. At the moment all you've put out is a vague concept and diagram- and the diagram has what looks like to me a scale problem, but hopefully an unintentional one.

Put in some more work and don't sweat about coding it at this stage. Figure out size, mass, propellents and stuff like that now, instead of trying to hook a co-developer. If you did some of the hard number crunching, show us! If you have a mesh, even only half done, show us! If your willing to step out and show what your doing and resolve to do better and address the problems pointed out, you'll get help.

Shows us what your doing, keep working at it, don't forget that your doing it, and I'm sure that given enough time you could make this in Orbiter. Just start doing it already!

It's like a weird mix between a space shuttle and Buran (soviet counterpart). The rockets in the back borrow from Buran, and the engine in the tail reminds me of the Buran flight test models configured with jet engines for multiple landing attempts. The tile arrangement appears to be more like the space shuttle.

This could be really awesome. You should try for the overall shape to be somewhat different from the shuttle; perhaps the wings could be wider (not like the delta glider, but larger proportionally to the fuselage. Make it a real candidate for a space shuttle successor! This also reminds me of the Resolve add-on, which is a very wide, very large shuttle.

Here is the first model of the Cygnus main structure. I created the PB, the EDO-pallet and the engine section. Everything in just one hour!:)
And thanks for the help, and yes, the wing will be wider...

Ok, here's the first picture of the full assembled Cygnus, just without the Landing Gear and without the PB doors... Now, I'll make a new set of wings, adjust the flight deck for the windows and create the heat shield... The Cygnus will be my best addon! I'll create a VC soon...
Thanks!:tiphat:

How do you plan to launch it?

That's the main problem! :)
But my rocket called "Ganymedes" can solve the problem! It's a fusion of the SLS with the Shuttle Stack. Maybe some updates can transform this rocket in the best launcher for my spacecraft. But I'm not sure...
Any help here? What rocket would be perfect to launch the Cygnus?

Wing-mounted liquid boosters with drop tanks!

A very poorly photoshopped diagram of what I mean:

Additional fuel tanks could be added to increase payload capacity, maybe. Or the existing tanks could be stretched.

(Yes I know those are SRB meshes, just pretend they're liquid boosters!)

Wouldnt the boosters+tank put too much stress on the wings during launch, as well as additional, unneeded weight?

I was thinking they'd be double mounted to both the body of the orbiter and the wings, so that the part designed to take stress takes the stress.

(Also note that I'm intending this to be the ONLY method for achieving orbit, an entire shuttle stack effectively)

General ideas for the Shuttle Cygnus launch vehicle.

Basically, have a SLS style launch booster, with the Shuttle mounted on top. Also, Flyback SRB's would be awesome too.

Hey, I was thinking about a first stage modified from the Shuttle ET, but with engines, two ASRMs and a payload fairing on the top of the ET to launch small satellites to the LEO without the use of the payload bay area. And the Cygnus design use very light materials, so the rocket don't need to be so powerfull...
