Just two days after the launch of the Zarya module the Space Shuttle Endeavour launched from Kennedy Space Center carrying the Node 1, the PMA and the CMB-Zarya docking adapter to bring the construction of the MSS a step further.

This flight was the most challenging manned mission in Low Earth Orbit ever attempted and the are more to come.

"The Space Shuttle is often referred as a flying brick, well this is true in atmospheric flight, but in orbit it's a very precise machine however having more than 7t sitting on the docking port makes every maneuver a challenge. especially if you are flying more than 27 thousand kilometers per hour and using a 15 meters long robotic arm
to grapple another. we are glad we could accomplish this, but for my taste it was almost to tricky." -Robert D. Cabana, Commander of the Space Shuttle Endeavour.

While the Space Shuttle was still attached to the Zarya Module, the Service Module Zvezda launched from Baikonur, Kazakhstan and docked to Zarya only hours after Endeavour left for home.
