OHM space shuttle external fueltank 80s

Thanks!
Since you took the time to share something you did with others, you deserve compliment.

Nevertheless, the Orbiter community is very critical and methodical, so I must point out some things to improve:

- add the proper folder paths to the zip
- upload the add-on into the proper category (repaints)
- study the original tank using reference photos and add texture details
- repaint the boosters....

As for your texture, it looks as a simple repaint of the existing texture. Looking at historical photos, the original tank had slight differences:

This is not to put you down. It's some advice to let you improve in the future :tiphat:

Also it has to be said, that this wasn't the fuel tank of the 80s. It was the fuel tank for STS-1. During the first flights, there had been strong changes to the ET of every mission, while NASA gathered experience with them.

STS-1 and STS-2 had white tanks, STS-3 removed the white paint, STS-4 removed the anti-geyser line parallel to the LOX feed line. STS-7 was the last to use the SWT, how the first model of the ET was called.

From STS-6 on until STS-107, the LWT was used, which was much lighter, by many small changes, which are hardly visible to the casual observer.

From STS-91 on, the SLWT was used, which further reduced weight by using a different aluminum alloy (no visual changes until STS-107 happened). This also saw many modifications after STS-107, so there is a SLWT from before STS-107 and one for the final flights.

Good job on your first addon! The key is to not give up, and to keep trying to improve and learn. I don't know one tenth of the things that some of the developers here know, but it is still fun to try out new ideas and to contribute to the Orbiter community. You will find that there are a number of individuals that are more than willing to help with advice and guidance. Also, in the forum there is a lot of information that you can use to inhance and improve your work. Good luck!!!

Is it me, or do these look like the textures from SSMS2007? This one looks strikingly similar.

i have made all the textures my self so idk :idk:

Since both textures are based on the really existing Space Shuttle, I would be very surprised, if they are extremely different.

What would be really strangely similar is, if both textures use the same mapping to the mesh. But I have no SSMS2007 to test this, and it is also not my responsibility IMHO to control this.

It also alters the original tank.dds with no kudos to the original author.:tiphat:

:hesaid:

remember also that you should post/write a warning in documentation, if your add-on is replacing default orbiter files. Writing few lines of text isn't that hard even for simple file swap:

I'm a little leery,

I spend an inordinate amount of hours replicating textures with high detail in Adobe Illustrator. So much so that you can tell the differnece in the evolution of them, once final I hope to completely mimic my source, be it another authors work(this is very rare), or a set reference photos.

All in all I've yet to truly replicate with more than 98% accuracy any texture I've ever made. I hate to say it, but the talk over these textures is leaning very much toward infringment. Without more experience with the other authors work, I'd say I'm gonna pass on this.

Moderation note: if you have doubts regarding copyright infringement in this add-on, you should raise it in private with the author and/or O-F staff. Do NOT continue to discuss this in public.

Since this is a repaint (at least the author uploaded new versions as repaints) it kind of implies a previous add-on and of course texture overwrite.

But I agree that a mention to the original authors should be made.
