Project Space Shuttle Photoreal

Looks nice. Although there should not be any water proofing injection ports on the OMS pod tiles. Here's a nice close-up from STS-116. And the orbiter name is located too high up. It's supposed to be located level with the payload bay door hinges.

Thank you Dave. I ll try to get a nice closeup pic of the the OMS POD like the one you posted (maybe with the Tiles in a better shape than those )
and fix that.
The name in the present position also create an annoying distortion when viewed from some angles. So one more reason to shift it into the correct location

Just delete the injection ports from the tiles. That should be enough. Also there's a set of tiles arranged in a "ring configuration" that needs to be added. Here's a good photo that shows them:

Also the black tape on the T0 umbilical panels need to go, they're just there when the panels are unprotected during orbiter transfers. This is the flight configuration:

Looks great. I did however notice a few things on the OMS pods. The access door on the top of the pods are located too low. The bottom is supposed to be located slightly higher up than the sideways firing RCS jets. Also, the bottom tiles need to be grey, not blue. The blue color comes from either a reflection of Earth (the tiles are slightly reflective) or Earth-shine.
You can use these TPS schematic images as guides:

Thanks again Dave for your precious tips:

You' re definetly right on the OMS pod door location. I trusted the original texture (as I did for the name on the fusolage sides) and "overlayed my door on that one but the door is far too low. I'll fix this.

About the belly Tiles in the pics they reflect earth color quite a lot. Here is another pic with the belly towards the zenith and they look more right (grey).

Still the color needs to be adjusted as the whole thing (as I said it is a very initial stage).
One thing I do not like for example is that the refurbished Tiles (the dark ones) give a perfect symmetric look to the belly and that doesn't seem very realistic. Some areas like they Landing gear doors and the L-shaped ones on the sides and forward of the main Landing gear doors are actually symmetrical, but here all the single Tiles on one side appear specularly on the other side.
Don't think I can fix this since I can work only on one half of the belly

Here's a good photo from the STS-122 RPM that shows just how grey the used tiles are:

Wow, this looks awesome

Thanks for the excellent work Wolf.

The belly tiles can be remapped on a seperate texture.

How can I do that? I thought I could only edit "on top" of the original texture file.
One of the things I had in mind was to re-shape the RCC nose cone (something you guys did for SSU) but I thought as far as shaping and shuttle parts I was stuck with the original SF/(MGAtlantis) one...

There is also a glitch I found on the Side Hatch: the hatch is slightly displaced with a sort of double layer (it is also visible in the original Shuttle Fleet) My hatch looks perfect in the PSD and DDS files, but then running the scenario and looking at it this is what I get (look at the right edge of the hatch)

Another weird thing is that the hatch layer is above the TPS black Tiles, but the displacement to the left shifts that side of the hatch "below" the TPS Tiles and it's hidden...

You need a 3D program to re-map the area you want to fix. AC3D is what I use.

If the addon is only a repaint they you are stuck with the original UV mapping.
To change that, you'd need to open the meshes on a 3D program, re-map the textures and export them back to Orbiter.
That may mess up mesh groups and thus break animations, VCs, etc, etc.

So to keep things simple, your are limited to painting over any original textures, and possible improving their resolution (for example from 1024x1024 to 2048x2048).

That's true, if you have to make new groups, but it shouldn't mess up the animations, if you put the new groups at the end of the group list.

:hesaid:

What frame rate are you getting ?
