Space Shuttle Ultra 1.25 Revision B development

While doing a check of the new OMS pods, I noticed this. I have no idea on how to fix it. The front end of the OMS pod needs to cover the green area (aft face of the Xo1307 bulkhead).

Any tips?

stretch it a little.

Unfortunately that doesn't work. This screenshot shows the problem from at the Front view, with the Xo1307 bulkhead hidden but with the outline enhanced. As you can see the front end doesn't quite fill the area as it should.

Still not getting the problem.

here's the old one.

Still not getting the problem.
The problem is that the forward end of the OMS pods isn't fully covering the aft face of the bulkhead as they should be.

Here's a link to just the aft compartment with the bulkhead and OMS pods:

The problem with the original OMS pods is that they don't fit on a correctly shaped aft compartment. The real aft compartment where the OMS pods fit have a triangular shape. The current mesh cheats by making aft compartment shoulders have the same shape as the bulkhead.

As the old shoulders were curved and your new shoulders are straight, as it should be, the only thing you can do is change the shape/or size of the pods, but then they won,t be correct. Very tricky Dave.

Are the bay doors made yet, if not you could compromise by changing the shape of the bulkhead slightly and making the pods very very slightly larger.

try doing a convex mesh shape from the pod to the aft bulkhead.

Check your mail.

Donamy: Got your e-mail. Looks great. Could you fill in the hole at the forward end? As you can see this photo, that part is covered by MLI:

Done ! Are you going to seperate the two pods ?

Yes, once everything is done. Now all it lacks is the OME heatshield. How is the new forward fuselage coming along? Let me know if you need mine for scaling purposes.

You might as well.

BTW, here's two good shots of the PLBD structure: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24122088/04pd1702.jpg
Note the gold and silver TCS blankets on the inside of the door. Currently we only have the gold TCS.

You scaled the mesh again ?

You got mail.

Got it, thanks. Only change needed is to scale the two star tracker cavities by approx. 30%. I'll get back to you on the center positions of them. Great job the FRCS module!

The -Z star tracker center needs to be at: 0.91(x), -10.61(z).
The -Y star tracker center needs to be at: 10.55(y), -10.61(z).

Actual star tracker cavities on Atlantis, note the size relative to the left center window:

The problem being the more faces they impact, the more distortion.

What kind of distortion are we talking about here? Is of the texture mapping?

No, things can always be remapped. The distortion is cused by vertices that get moved around during the mesh cutting. It can cause unsightly seams to appear on the model.
