Request Spacecraft from several low budget movies

After a long break I've got my hands on a real dog of a film "Space Fury".

I thought the Russian Space Station 'Tesla' and the Russian Shuttle might make for interesting addons.

Certainly I think someone could make them look better than the CG animators for this film did.

Space Station Tesla

Space Shuttle Cosmos(?)

Careful Driving...NOT!

Anyone else think that Russian shuttle looks a little bit like Loru's ETS? LOL

Not entirely, just a little bit (wings are more rounded).

I can see the resemblance, but the films version is much 'chubbier'. I've got my hands on some new image capture software and I'm going to see if I can make some better screenshots from Def-Con IV

...a classic Hollywood goof that was repeated in Armageddon.
The docking in Armageddon was funny. Spin up the station, then dock around the perimeter (rather than on the axis like you can do in orbiter with the lunar wheel).

I Remember setting up something in orbiter that was rotating at about 5rpm and trying to dock the shuttle in a similar manner. It was bloody hard (can't remember whether I did it or not) - you have to continually pulse your LIN RCS jets to stay approaching as well as all the normal docking manoeuvres.

This looks interesting. What would you estimate the dimentions ?

I'll see what I can do. I only skim watched the film, but there were several interior shots of the shuttle that might provide scaling.

This is an early build. It's about 17 meters, just a guess.

Looks good.

I've done some more screenshots showing the spacecrafts cockpit, as a low budget film they don't show any other part of the craft. I've also done a few screenshots showing a hatch identical to the one at the back of the cockpit with people in the scene in the hope that helps with scaling. I'm also adding a closeup of the front end as the 'front end' should look more shuttle like.

Space Shuttle Cosmos(?): Cockpit

Hatch

Space Shuttle Cosmos(?)

PS. In case you were wondering the black dude is supposed to be Tiger Woods...

Some great shots BTW. It will look more shuttle like, when the RCS and TPS are done. One thing that puzzles me, is the lack of windows in the front of the cockpit. They show them on the outside shots. Also, is there an airlock between the hatch aft and the docking hatch ?

Welcome to the world of low budget film making...

I think the film makers blew most of the budget on the CGI, parts of the shuttle cockpit set might have been recycled as part of the mission control set (And may have been recycled from something else to begin with...hence the mismatch with the CGI shots), finally, they never actually show what is behind the door in the back of the cockpit, but an airlock would seem reasonable.

Cockpit Set?

Good find !!

Sadly they don't include a launch vehicle for it so you're going to have to take a guess, but I'd suggest a Buran for ease of join up, using a Proton would mean customising an adaptor. Below is my own rough guess as to the internal layout of the shuttle.

An escape system during ascent should be included, IMHO.

Feel free to add one. This is one of those things the film makers did not include.

Most cheap movies make use of stock shuttle launch footage which leads to scenes where the shuttle is called Atlantis, Enterprise & Solaris or the like and you can clearly read Discovery on the side of the orbiter being launched  (Fallout is a good example (Check out the OP for some scary pics & a most impressive space station model.)... The people who made this one were smart enough not to (or couldn't afford the CGI) show the shuttle being launched.

Also, the large retro thrusters on the narcells, do you really think they are necassary ?

:WTF:

Haven't seen the movie yet, but I can see some resemblance

Shuttles of a feather flock together...

A rough updated look.
