Be lucky that it is not magnetic tape seals.

Duct tape....

Works for everything else

NASA is working on modifying the ACES Crew Launch/Reentry suit for
use in the Orion capsule

Found there was insufficient room in Orion to carry both Launch suits and
EVA suits.

The Gemini and Apollo A7 suits could act for both as launch and EVA suits

Current EVA suits have hard shell torso

ACES suits require modifications: change from open circuit breathing to
closed loop, gussets around joints for easier movement, means for
attaching life support backpack

Yes, it is a lot smaller than the "instant space station" called Space Shuttle.

But then, you don't really need it in the capsule.

Makes me wonder why NASA doesn't just go with an updated variant of the G5 (Gemini) or A7 (Apollo) series space suits.

In my opinion, given we've heard so little about SpaceX suit development, it wouldn't surprise me if SpaceX just used the NASA ACES suits for the test flights.

I would. It's a well proven and tested design, with lots of experience informing its design. After all it IS descended from the suits worn by SR-71 crews.

Excerpts from article

Per the evaluations, Mr. Stich is overseeing whether the Shuttle launch and entry suit – the ACES – can be modified for use not only as Orion’s launch and re-entry suit, but also for EVAs on the ARM.

“The Shuttle EVA suits and the ones we use on Station are great for EVA, but they are ‘hard’ and they’re not designed for launch and entry. So it was (a question of) ‘can we use one suit for both?’

“Orion has a certain amount of stowage and a certain amount of volume and we wanted to minimize cost by not flying an airlock. So (we thought) let’s do it all out of Orion – that’s why we ended up with this concept.”

As for reusing Gemini/Apollo suits - ACES is derived from the earlier model suits

That suit is almost a derivative of the suit used for Gemini, way, way back in the Sixties,” Mr. Stich added. “It’s changed a little bit over time, (but) the important thing was can we do (EVA) tasks.
