SSU installation instructions

Happy new year to everbody!

I can not find MS Visual Studio 2017 Community Edition on the net.

The provided link (https://www.visualstudio.com/downloads/) always leads me to Visual Studio 2019.

VS 2019 looks different from what you describe in the installation tutorial. There is are no "Windows SDK 10.0.15063.0 options" to select.

One other thing: I can not find the video you mention in the tutorial: "Everything has already been set up if you followed the VC++ setup video linked earlier in this thread".

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Many greetings
Rick

Hello!
Try this for VS2017: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/productinfo/vs2017-system-requirements-vs

For VS2019, I haven't even tried to install it, so solution and project versions for it don't exist yet.

Thanks for your quick help, dear GLS! :thumbup:

Many Greetings
Rick

Hello GLS!

One more question:

What components of VS 2017 do i really need to install?

Under "Workloads" if i check the box:
- Desktop Development with C++

and

under "Single Components" if i check the boxes:
- Windows 10 SDK (10.0.15063.0) for desktop C++ (x86 and x64)
- Windows 10 SDK (10.0.15063.0) for UWP: C#, VB, JS
- Windows 10 SDK (10.0.15063.0) for UWP: C++

the installer tells me that i need 11,1 GB of free diskspace.

That´s quite a lot of space needed just to compile one file.
Maybe i don´t need all of these components?!?

Many thanks for your reply in advance!

I think only the first one is needed, that is for the Orbiter vessels. For the SSU Workbench you might need the second one.
Anyway, you can choose the first one and see if that is enough. If yes -> OK, if not, then install another one, etc...
If I remember well, there are lots of options for mobile/tablets/whatever and that UWP (Universal Windows Platform) that should not be needed, as Orbiter only runs in desktop (and it's enough :thumbup:). Also, only the C++, and C# if you want to compile the SSU Workbench, are needed.

Thanks a lot, GLS!
Have a great Sunday.

Ho to ALL in this SSU forum, I am new to this forum.

I used to run SSU many years ago (around 2018), after that due to frustrations to run the sim (not being able to go beyond earth orbit insertion as don’t know what else to do...) I stop it, and I switched to NASSP 7 on Orbiter 2010. Recently I gained interest again on the Space Shuttle thanks to the Space Shuttle in FlightGear, where I found a lot of information/explanations on what you were suppose to do, so now that I got “relatively” acquainted to read NASA real documents and so on, I decided to give it another serious try, so I decided to restart everything from scratch.
I saw this post talking about installations and I followed all steps.
Everything worked well until I download again Visual Studio Community 2017, when I tried to run it I got the following message and now I am stacked….
visual studio problems.JPG

What I am supposed to do now?
Do I need to buy “VS 2017” to be able to compile the files that regularly will come by all of you when updating from the SVN server with Tortoise?
Was it not supposed to be free? (I mean Visual Studio Community edition....)
Any help is highly appreciate on how to circumvent this obstacle.

Thanks.

Paolo
