Just curious, how the fuel is supposing to get through the heatshield ? That's the part I don't get with that interesting concept of detachable engine pods. :hmm:
 
It will go around heatshield. Like oxygen lines in from SM to CM in Apollo.
 
Docking mechanism (stolen from XR3), and EVA hatch added to cargo bay.

2.6 x 5.8 meter cylider shown as reference inside cargo bay.

^ Umbilicals Mystify me beyond the normal curiosity. I know they work, I've seen them work from a distance, but I lack the details of how they really work.

Practically, they are just interfaces, that can be separated. Nothing really special and there is a really good book by NASA, how the umbilicals evolved from the V-2 to the Saturn launchers.

The big magic is, how things are grouped together into a single interface.
