I still think that 3 shots in 8 seconds is a pretty good time regarding the circumstances. Of course his performance was not really good, when it comes to the accuracy, but on the other hand, he did not really allow himself good time for aiming.
The musician inside me tells me that - he had maximal 4 seconds between the shots. That is a lot of time when you have nothing better to do, but time is rushing when you are aiming. Also the actual firing of a rifle is different to computer games - when you just quickly pull the trigger, you will miss the target by a far distance. You need to be gently and increase the force while keeping the target fixed. I think my best time for this final act was 0.3-0.5 seconds in the army - and I was pretty fast when frustrated.
So, when the recoil phase took about 0.5 seconds, reloading about one second and firing one half, he had only 2 seconds left for picking the target again, estimate it's movement, concentrate on his own breathing and then fire.
I don't remember anybody from my platoon who was able to pick a target over 200m distance in 2 seconds after swapping the magazine of our H&K G3 rifles. And I remember only very few people who had been able to shoot accurate once per second with this rifle. Lot's of recoil, and most people didn't learn the trick of keeping their eyes open while firing (which makes them miss one of the most beautiful sights - the large star of flames only 70 cm away from their nose).
I think, people in the US, who have the qualifications and possibilities to attempt this kind of shooting, should try it (on a professional shooting range of course)...
I think, even with 8 months of regular training, I would not be able to "kill JFK" in 8 seconds except by sheer luck. Maybe with a bow. But not with a semiautomatic rifle.
