I was scanning the web digging for information and came across an article that hoped man would have a elescope on Mars to view Earth in 2084. A google check called this a Transit. After digging more I couldn't find a basic answer...what the Earth would look like from Mars in 2084. Anyone care to speculate the distance between the two planets in 2084 and what the earth may look like?

My personal thinking, and I'm no physicist, is that it would be a point of light and nothing more. Unless I'm wrong it wouldn't be anything less than 55 Million miles away...it couldn't be the size of a BB pellet all from Mars, right?

Is 55 Million miles accurate?

Just load up an Orbiter scenario with a DG sitting on Mars, and use the editor to set the date to the 2084 transit. Then set the view to track Earth and zoom in like a telescope view.

I found this image on space.com ( I never stop hunting for answers when I have a question).

Thanks for the heads up on Orbiter capabilites!

McWgogs, the detail in that picture is remarkable...thanks!

Telescope / Teleobjective effect. See how big is the Moon on the pic below.

Because it really is that big when you choose is as the focus. It won't be that big as seen from Mars but then the transit wouldn't be visible from Mars in Celestia :-)

That would be an awesome sight to see... Earth crossing the face of the Sun...

I remember seeing the recent Venus transit, and it was simply amazing.

It's due in 2084 so you never know. If you believe Star Trek we'll get there in 2032 and have warp drive then :-)

Although its not real, its very realistic...check out the movie Sunshine..some abolutely amazing cinematography of the sun and I believe Mercury in transit....its a pretty good SCI-FI flick too.

2084 is either the time of Total Recall or when the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robotron:_2084"]Robotron[/ame] revolt will come...either way I likely won't see it.
