Museveni: Africans must go to the moon

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni says Africans must travel to the moon to see what other nations have been doing in outer space. President Museveni told a meeting of the Uganda Law Society in Entebbe, "the Americans have gone to the Moon. And the Russians. The Chinese and the Indians will go there soon. Africans are the only ones who are stuck here. We must go there and say 'what are you people doing up here?'"

The Ugandan leader says a moon mission will only be possible if East African countries join together and develop a space programme. At the moment, Uganda is conducting negotiations with Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda on forming closer political and economic ties. Mr Museveni is known as one of the most enthusiastic proponents of an East African free trade zone.

Yes, Africa does have a variety of human-rights nightmares going on. Uganda in particular was the object of the Invisible Children documentary, if I recall correctly.

The best of luck to them, but I really wish they could clean some things up first. Of course I suppose it's not as simple as that.

Well just so its out there, it is every Orbinaut's dream to have spaceflight so common that every two-bit country, most businesses of a certain size and some individuals have and use regular access to space.

Sorry i have to end the funny stuff going on, but is Uganda in a proper place to get into orbit, or align with the ISS IF they get there.

Yes, Uganda is right on the equator, so it would make a good launch site to reach any orbit. Unfortuanately, is does not have a coastline, so anything launched from it will pass over populated land. Neighboring Kenya is on the coast, though, and would make a good place for a launch site. Plus with a northerly launch you could drop spent stages on the pirates.
