Hi There,

I've been looking ways of getting my UMMU's around, other than cars and ships, and I thought the perfect idea would be a helicopter.
For example, if the vessel was downed atop a mountain (albeit a flat one in orbiter :lol: ) then a rescue helicopter could be sent to collect the crew.

I've been looking on orbit hangar, but can't seem to find a UMMU compatible one. So therefore this is basically a request if anybody knows of a UMMU helicopter, or if someone is able to create one.
I think it would be a great addition to anyone's orbiter installation.

Kind Regards,
NT

I don't think it would hard to add Ummu do this:

I've done UMMU parachute drops from that. It's just a matter of UMMUAFA and a docking port. I'm at work at the moment but can post the seaking tweaked config I have for doing this when I get home.

By making it a dll, it is SC3 you could have the Ummu open close the doors,...

I was looking at getting UMMUFA, but then I'd need to define the docking port on the heli, which I don't know how to do. Additionally, I've been reading the UMMUFA thread and it doesn't seem 100% stable at the moment, and might cause conflicts with my other UMMU mods like the UMMU ISS. If you could post the tweaked config for the helicopter I could give it a go and see how well it works :)
If there's no conflicts or problems with stability, then problem solved :)

It would definitely be cool if it was it's own vessel with native UMMU support however, then you could add action areas and such, though preferably without sc3.dll because I can never get that working on 2010 haha.
Maybe I'll see if I can get in contact with one of the Heli authors to see if they would be able to add UMMU support?

Kindest Regards,
NT

I am working on a dll for it with adding Ummu to open the side door.

all I have to done to the .ini file for this seaking is add these lines:

Code:
[DOCK_0]
POS=(0,-0.49,3.84)
DIR=(0,0,1)
ROT=(0,1,0)

which adds a dock that UMMUAFA can use.

Wow thanks! If you can get it working without any external requirements other than UMMU that will be amazing! :thumbup:

Kindest Regards,
NT

-Edit-
Wow Helicopters are quite easy to fly compared to spacecraft! (No surprise there :P )
And it's a faster method of transportation than UMMU cars, and easier than atmospheric flight (I'm useless at it :L )

Just as a note to anyone interested, gattispilot has managed to cook up a standalone .dll and .cfg for this that works perfectly, with 6 UMMU's, Action area for the door, and a working winch!

Great news - why doesn't he upload it to OH?

I've suggested that to him, it works perfectly at the moment, you can even grab a UMMU with the winch, bring him up, switch focus and open the door and enter!
He might need permission from the original owner though, but I think it definitely needs to be on OH for anyone else who wants one :)

The only 'bug' with it at the moment is that when it's landed it's not exactly 'still' so time acceleration causes it to skit about and eventually jump off into space :P though not a problem if your only using it when needed, and deleting it from the scenario after use.
Also as it's now a .dll vessel, it can be spawned from the scen editor! Major thumbs up to gattispilot :D

Sounds good, but you don't need a specific module for your vessel to let it show in ScnEditor, you only need a config file, and it has to bee in the Config/Vessels folder

Thanks. I have used Kev's meshes before and had permission. Just need to add a wheel brake.
Code:
SetMaxWheelbrakeForce(200000);

but not sure how to engage it.

As in the keyboard key? For all the vessels I have it's , and . (left and right brake respectively) though given it's not a spaceplane, and the B key isn't used for anything, B could be used? Seen as that's normally for airbreak.

If you mean on the programming side then ignore everything I just said xD

PS. If anyone knows some decent screen recorder software, or how to convert an orbiter playback to a video I could upload a video to youtube showing this thing in action. Did some UMMU parachute jumps, and had one hanging from the hook :P

Kind Regards,
NT

Gattispilot has now added the breaking code, which now means the vessel comes to a complete stop when all engines are nulled, and all autopilots are disabled :) now it's safe for time-travellers :D

Sounds like it works. Not sure how to upload it. Should be just an addition. And state that you need Kev Sky King's. I don't think Kev is doing things. But I asked permission a while back for his Space1999 rover and was given the ok.

NTpspE, have you tried CamStudio? It's free. And Open Source.

Thanks for that, but on second thought, I probably have too low-end a PC to run orbiter and a screen cap program at the same time as is, never mind getting a decent framerate :P

Give this a try.

you must have the Sky king already. [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=1402"]http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=1402[/ame]

I thought about making the cage a UMmu vessel then you could load the ummu into it. Grap it with the winch and go back

I know Im always saying this, but could I possibly see the source for this? Tmac3000 is requesting a cable car type elevator for the Iron Hill Project, in order to scale the walls of Chao meng Fu crater.

The scenario crashes on my computer. I think you may have forgotten to include a config file. Below is my Orbiter.log:

Same here. Even with the SH3.dll file dropped into the modules folder Orbiter doesn't recognise it.

I also tried creating an sh3.cfg file that looks like this:

Code:
ClassName = sh3
Module = sh3

No Joy.
