When I EVA one of my crew they get two hours' worth of oxygen.

Where does this oxygen come from? Is this amount of oxygen subtracted from LOX of XR-2 and is what is left after EVA actually added back? Or does this just come from thin air when I jump out?

Thanks.

That 2 hours worth of oxygen is part of any UMMUs EMU, so the amount of oxygen in the vessel does not subtract/get added back when you EVA

So in case of utter necessity I can simply jump out of a craft, fly a bit beside it, then go back and jump out again with a full supply of oxygen thus saving LOX of the craft, can't I?

Now I can answer to my own question.

I left only one man inside and used up all oxygen, then I EVA'd and I had 2 hours' worth of oxygen; when there was about only 10 minutes' worth of oxygen I jumped back in my craft (interestingly enough - while I was out exploring space the level of oxygen in the cabin increased from ~17% to ~21%) and then out again -- I had 2 hours' worth of oxygen...

What you are seeing is normal -- MMu oxygen is handled entirely by the UMMu DLL, not by the parent vessel. :)
