Flight Question Unable to hold AoA while re-entering

always nice to see my tutorial being mentioned in these threads, i guess it worked for some people :D

It works great, as long as you have the right spaceplane  After practicing and learning more about the re-entry process, I may see if I can figure out how to re-enter the considerably liftier DeltaGlider.

pretty hard in the stock DG, owing to the lack of AP and CoG shift, but definatley possible, especially since its impossible to incinerate yourself or kill your crew

Shift the cg aft, closer to the a/c.

Oh, there's no doubt that it's harder, that's why I came on here and whined about it. Also why I'm going to the actual DGIV to do some practice before I bother trying again with the stock DG.

That's a safety feature. If you incinerate the stock DG pilot, there will be no further updates to Orbiter.

Once you get the hang of the DG-IV, you may never want to fly the stock DG again...

I only do so just to kill time (a few touch-and-go's at a new spaceport). Inverted under the crane at CSSC was a real challenge, lemme tell you...

I figure it'll probably be a good challenge for if I ever want to tax my brain. Plus, I'll always have a bit of a soft spot for it, because I flew my first Grand Tour in that ship.

Okay, orbinauts, first of all, all y'all are awesome. :hailprobe: I found where I've been going wrong: I referred to the "stock DG" as the DGIV, because that's what Orbiter calls it. I went and downloaded dansteph's DGIV-2, and I immediately noticed that the 40 degree AoA showed a clean, smooth re-entry profile. So the final question is, has anyone actually found a good way to land the stock DG without it bouncing along the atmosphere for a half orbit on the one hand, or coming in at such an extreme AoA that it can't hold the angle, on the other?

Actually, the "stock" DeltaGlider is the "Deltaglider Mk 4", while Dan's is the "Deltaglider IV".

It's easy to be confused by this, as the names are quite similar - but the two are very different ships!
