Project Universal Car for Orbiter (UCO)

this is the best day of my life... do I even have one?

Your life belongs to :probe:, just like the rest of us.

Dan needs to sleep for the next month, so someone will have to take over dealing with the flood of vehicle and building requests that are about to come pouring in.

I found 2 problems:

1. It's too addicting
2. It's too cool :tiphat:

Oh and when we saw the demo movie a while back, they included cities buildings bars, that sort of thing. Am I missing that, or what happened to it?
Edit: ah ha, Picto's town was decided not to be released. Any ideas when it is going to be out?

Picto have a long tradition of making great addons but never make them out, so I push him gently since month to release the town at UCGO release. But I had no contact with him since 1 month. I know his life is really busy lately.

The town is almost complete, I'm sure it would take him one week at worse to make a clean release. I'll contact him.

One word.......WOW!

This is by far the most amazing add-on ever created for Orbiter and quite possibly any flight-sim as well.

I have had a chance to skim the dev documentation and there is almost too much to take in. It will take some time for my slow mind to absorb it all but so far it looks very very promising. Thank you Dan for everything! I wish I had the money to send you on a vacation to some exotic location for you to rest. You deserve it!

Cheers to you sir!

Just flew the Arrow around tonight. It handles like a bathtub but I love it anyway. Thanks Dan! Great work! Hail :probe:!

One word: WOW.
The cars handle very well. One thing that could use some work though, and I don't know if this is possible, is the controls. Up arrow and down arrow are for accelerate and decelerate. But 4 and 6 are for left and right. It might just be me but I think that it would make more sense for the controls to be together. like make 8 and 2 for accelerate and decelerate, or left arrow and right arrow for left and right.

Still. UCGO is AMAZING

Good work Dan :tiphat:

Is there a trick to making the probe work? I just created one in the Arrow's cargo, deployed it, used the scenario editor to place it on the pad I wanted to land on, then switched the autopilot on until it said XPDR transmitting and landing complete. Then, I push the auto land button less than 1500 km away, with the trajectory passing almost directly overhead at 10km, and nothing happens. I miss a step?

Did you tuned NAV1 of arrow on the probe's frequency ? There is no message at all when you click on autoland ?

"This is not step forward, this is a LEAP!"

-German ace pilot Adolph Galland when he test-flew Willy Messerschmitt's revolutionary new aircraft Me262 in 1943.

-dgatsoulis when he tried out the first couple of scenarios of UCGO. ;)

Unbelievable, jaw-dropping work Dan! The possibilities seem endless!
:salute:

It's made so you can use two hands. But cars handle way better with joystick.
(up/down accelerate/brake, left right etc) Key give you only rough 1-0 control.

The choice of control key is always hard because everyone have his preffered key ;)

Dan

You really out did yourself, Dan. I was worried that I'd have to wait a couple of months (I left my beloved X52 at home...... I'm so stupid!) But I was able to configure my gamepad, which actually works better while in orbit.

Hi Dan
Thanks for this fantastic addon. It is fantastic.
I tried to register and login to your site to post something , but I think I messed something up because I can't get in,
sorry if I made some disastrous mess,
I would like to register and log in to put some posts if possible,
Thanks
Kevin

I built a little base on moon.
This is one of the most amazing Addons in Orbiter!!!
Thanks for all your work on this Dan!
And now im gonna have a Dinner Party on moon!

Had to go back to the Orbiter documentation and figure out the NAV/XPDR system, I just hadn't tried to do anything with it until you went and made me.

Yes but the autoland should have "whooop whoooped" with an error message ?
If not that's a bug.

Dan

Yeah, it was flashing the error message, that's why I figured I missed a step instead of assuming it was a bug.

I don't know if it is a bug, when I landed the Arrow on the moon using auto land the crew was dead when I landed. I don't know what happened.

On another note, this is the perfect way to get people comfortable making their own addons. It is so simple to make a car or cargo with this addon.

Either a touchdown too "hard" (<8m/s) either the lack of oxygen reserve.
With such a big ship it's easy to land too hard, the size give a wrong impression.

LAST CALL

Despit the 240 download of beta I have only a few bug report and about no reports from SDK test. Problem is that I really can't delay more my real work so I'm heading now for a release without any modifications. After release I'll not be able to rework on it during month.

So please, give feedback now, later will be too late.

Cheers and much thanks for kind words.

Dan
