Universe Sandbox Anyone?

I can't resist to quote a quote showed on the site :

"What took billions of years to create, I've destroyed in 5 seconds."

I think many people around there will have a lot of fun with this software

I'm the developer of Universe Sandbox.

Thanks for the kind words OrbiterSpore. As I continue to release new updates to Universe Sandbox this year, your comments will become even more true. :)

I'm now following this thread so please let me know if you have any questions or ideas.

First, THANKS! It's great!
Why it costs money(I know, it's cheap, but...)? The free version is not good, but enough now.

Good question.

The sales of Universe Sandbox are my only source of income as developing Universe Sandbox is my full time job. It wouldn't be anywhere near as polished or easy to use had I not been able to justify leaving my previous job to work on this full time.

The free version is a viewer that doesn't let you change the properties of objects (mass, density, etc.) or the simulation (value of gravity). This makes it like most other free astronomy programs (which don't have those options as they aren't gravity simulators). I'm certainly open to changes that will enhance the free version without diminishing demand for the paid version.

Universe sandbox is the best sandbox game i played in ages creating galaxies (then destroying them ;) ) And as he said. Its his only source of income. But its well worth purchasing it.

I discovered it a few days ago, and i'm absolutely addicted on it. It has a powerful creation and destruction model. Easy to use and cheap. Anyone already heard about it?

Yep, we've heard about it. Its even on our External Links page. ;)

Dan, Great work! Thanks for your efforts and for replying to members inquires here.

Great program, but.......

Universe sandbox is a very interseting and addictive program. I fell in love it from the start. There are many detail about this simulator. I think there can be improvements. What I did not like is when two bodies collide with each other, they just stick to each other and do not merge to one sphere.

But the big but is now I am limited to the free version. I really want to purchase the program. It may sound silly, but I do not want a credit card.
It is a personal choice. I can do much better without it. And that limited me to buy this program online. I will think of other options in the meanwhile.
Thanks Dan for this program.

You're very welcome. Thanks for adding Universe Sandbox to the External Links page. It's really appreciated.

I've also added Orbiter to the list of programs similar to Universe Sandbox on my FAQ page:

I think there can be improvements.

Agreed. That's what I'm doing the rest of this year (and the next few years as long as I can continue to justify full time development).

I value feedback. I'd love to hear more about what you would like to see improved.

Here's a link to the Universe Sandbox Community Idea List where you can browse, add, and comment on ideas for improvements and fixes:

What I did not like is when two bodies collide with each other, they just stick to each other and do not merge to one sphere.

There are two different modes for when bodies interact: bounce and combine. If they're sticking together you have bounce mode turned on.

Depending on the simulation you load, one or the other is selected. The 50 floating moons simulation has bounce mode enabled, where as the 'Our Solar System' simulation uses combine mode. With the paid version you can switch back and forth between these modes in any simulation at any time. (The switch is on the View options panel on the far left side of the window)

That you were unaware that these two modes exist is my fault for not making it more obvious in the software.

I really want to purchase the program. It may sound silly, but I do not want a credit card.

You don't need a credit card to purchase the program, you can pay directly out of your checking account with PayPal. I'm also happy to accept payment via the physical postal service.
