Hi everyone,

This is a quick question I've got for some of the more experienced folks here on the forum. I'm applying for a GNC Engineering position and the application is asking about "statistical filtering techniques." Now, I have some experience with Kalman filters but I'm otherwise unfamiliar with their terminology. Thus, my question is simply this: is the Kalman filter a "statistical filtering technique"?

Thanks!

As far as I can tell: Yes. Though statistical filtering technique does not seem to be a common technical term.

I am familiar with Kalman, but looked at Wikipedia anyway.
"More formally, the Kalman filter operates recursively on streams of noisy input data to produce a statistically optimal estimate of the underlying system state."
"A common application is for guidance, navigation and control of vehicles, particularly aircraft and spacecraft."
Seems very appropriate to me. I would put it on the application.
