US Government Brings Martial Law in October 1st 2008 [HOAX. Date Expired]

Yeah, I think Atlanta was the one I was looking for, my Civil War history is a bit rusty. Bottom line is that the federal government and its army demonstrated that bombing and killing its own civilians is an option. I'm not a fan of Sherman, but at least he didn't try to cloak his bloodthirtiness with a bunch of patriotic drivel. He was quite willing to admit straight up what he was doing, especially after the war when he was murduring Indians to make room for westward expansion.

Cold-blooded people like this tend to find their way into positions of authority in any government and armed organization, and it is for this reason that you have to keep an eye on what your government is planning to do to you.

Yeah, I think Atlanta was the one I was looking for....

No, no - good second example. Vicksburg, too, got the SH:censored:T kicked out of it! Civilians spent a month hiding in dugouts and caves as their fellow citizens dropped thousands of 13" diameter exploding shells on top of them.

However, it is worth remembering that the Civil War started with some of those same citizens seizing federal property and firing on a Federal fort. Lincoln, Grant, Sherman, et al. weren't skittish chicken hawks fearfully lashing out at every preceived or potential threat. They were dealing with a true existential threat to the country and the Constitution.

That could be done in the 19th century. The same thing done now would cause untold damages to the nation's economic infrastructure. Shelling or bombing NY or LA won't cause any uprising to go away, but it will start a big one in the business community.

However, what I fear is not any government stomping down on the population, but the population willingly giving up its rights in the name of security. "Security is better than freedom" is a mantra I'm already hearing through various media.

Greg's story reminds me that UN troops have been training in brigade force for a long time. I grew up in El Paso. I only knew other forces more than the Army. By the time I was about 8 I could say hello in about 10 different languages. And that's all because of the training there. So the video was false. Or it had erroroneus info there

I wasn't denying that there was a grain of truth in the story. But the "Seven Days in May" spin ... that's pure Amy. And you can't deny that Amy is the reddest journalist that can get "mainstream" left people to come on to her show, right? And that she's red as hell, right?

(Sorry for the delay - I've been frequenting the forum very little lately. It seems real life has become far too demanding lately. Strange how the macrocosm affects the microcosm in daily life.)

Well....

Doesn't it depend on the definitions we're using? I think your post in "Sticks and Stones" speaks directly to this: here she could be considered "red as hell," but in Germany she'd be indistinguishable from any other Social Democrat. So no.

Invoking "S&S" again, I think this also is why the state of our media is so bleak as well. Media consolidation may be good for the bottom line (though I'd posit that's debatable as well), but it's disastrous for an informed citizenry. The forty journalists arrested in St. Paul have had all charges dropped - who reading this knows anything at all about it?

Amy's actually a better source of important information than the Post or the Times. To me, this is both an indictment and a genuine danger. I personally mourned the passing of W. F. Buckley, Jr. because like Amy, he was an important source of information that no one else would touch.

It's unfortunate that we need to turn to the "hard" right and left to get an idea of what's really going on. Though I disagree with Pat Buchanan on most things, I find he's worth paying attention to for the same reasons. His reading of the Lebanon fiasco was probably the most insightful I've heard yet.

Uh-huh... I think Princess Diana will become the new dictator of the US and Elvis will become the new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Then they'll take a fake Apollo ride to meet Osama bin-Laden at Mount Rushmore.

Bury your head in the sand. The bad thing about this is, it leaves your arse sticking up in the air.

Today is the day but whats this? no soldiers. HA! these people are really idiotic. Goodman made a bad mistake and this my friends is now considered a hoax. I think we can close this now

Why do they even bother?

You shouldn't praise the flight before the landing

So you're still expecting a military coup in the US?

No, I am expecting a financial crash with military being used to prevent angry citizens from assaulting the banks. ;)

Posse Comitatus just gets in the way of making stubborn people submit. The women and children at Waco could have been incinerated much easier if PC wasn't such a bothersome obstacle. Thanks be to the Drug War for providing the bypass.

I am with Greg on this one, there is a fine line between caution and paranoia, and I think we blew that away a long time ago. While yes, the constitutionality of doing some things the government does is questionable, this is what the Supreme Court is for. The government is never going to have an incentive to take over the country, it is already theirs. The government is made up of people, hundreds of thousands. It isn't a big monster out to get you run by 3 people who decide one day that it would be easier to run the country if there weren't any citizens.

Well...here we are its October 1st where is the anarchy? These predictions do nothing but cause the conspiracy nuts to lock themselves in their bomb shelters while us normal folk carry on with our daily lives.

Without getting too political (I hope), as far as the US military is concerned your 'arsenal' is going to look like a water gun anyway, so what is the real point? Nothing a citizen can own (legally or illegally) is going to stop a laser guided bomb or a tank shell. So the fact is, guns or no guns, the government can subdue you. The question is why would they ever want to?

There are far more armed citizens than military that is the point. We are also not easily identifiable (no uniforms) and the military are also citizens who will question the orders as they have in the past.

If the German citizens were not disarmed by Hitler, he would never have become as powerful as he did, and many Jews would not have suffered. I believe our way of governing will last much longer, only because the citizens are vigilant and patriotic.

What kind of crack pot answer is laser guided bombs and tank shells, can you say collateral damage?

Khrushchev once told Kennedy he would never invade the US, because our citizens are armed, it would be suicide.

Got news for you, the government does not run this country, big business runs this country, get rid of lobbyist and then maybe the people can take back control.

Where did you read this quote? On the fun page of the NRA? ;)

Guess how long a village of armed US citizens will last in a hot armed conflict against somebody who does not care, declaring all citizens as insurgents. ;)
