Hi All,

I read today with great interest that it might one day be possible to colonize Venus with "Aerostats" - floating cloud cities similar in concept to the cloud city "Bespin" in Star Wars (see image).

I was wondering, would it be possible to create a cloud city floating about 50km high in the Venusian atmosphere in Orbiter?

Here is a link to an article explaining the science that would make such a city possible. It sounds like an outlandish idea but there is real science behind it:

A Floating City on Venus

For one, at 50km above Venus colonists would experience Earth-like atmospheric pressures and temperatures. You'd need an oxygen mask and clothing resistant to the droplets of sulphuric acid in the atmosphere, but not a pressurised space-suit.

Sounds like it would be a great destination for an Orbiter flight!

I'd personally keep away from Venus, unless it is terraformed...

Well, according to that article, at 50km above the surface Venus is a more Earth-like environment than pretty much anywhere else in the Solar System.
