Hi there,
Thought i'd finally get around to 'upgrading' from Orb 2006 to 2010.

On installing a fresh Vespucci D into a fresh 2010, & launching its default scenario, the Sim loads OK but Vespucci & the cockpit etc are INVISIBLE!!!
(Although the Docking mesh IS visable)

Now can i assume that Vespucci D must be 'partially' compatible still, (dll ok etc) otherwise it would crash 2010 to desktop?

Therefore is this merely a 'texture' issue? & thus could all the textures be upgraded, (opened then re-saved in a different format) somehow, to make the ship & its cockpit visible again?

Or is Vespucci D now finally falling victim to the march of time & progress, & is truely no longer compatible??
If the latter, then that will be a damn shame. :-(

Hope there's some good news... so we can keep her alive with an 'Orbiter 2010' compatible version,,

Cheers
Al

It´s the problem with close code and versions .

I have two installs , the previous version of orbiter with a lot of addons and the new , stock with some compatible addons.

in this way i have all i need to enjoy orbiter.

I have had the same symptoms with my old Shuttle-A2 addon. The reason is, that Orbiter 2010 doesn't support some global callback functions anymore.. (like ovcPostCreation, ovcLoadPanel and so on.. ). So i guess for closed source addons like the Vespucci D the time has come.. :(

Martin, could you offer your input on this ??

That seems a shame..
Could a subsequent patch for 2010, re-introduce some 'backward' compatibility, without compromising any new features??

I doubt it.. its probably quite a pain in the *** for Martin to carry all that legacy stuff around from version to version. So it slows down the Orbiter development too.. maybe somebody will write a new dll for the Vespucci.. :)

Possible Death of Vespucci?

Hi Mindblast..

Please excuse my complete ignorance, (I've yet to dabble in ship development) ....
"The reason is, that Orbiter 2010 doesn't support some global callback functions anymore.. (like ovcPostCreation, ovcLoadPanel and so on.. )"

Why would allowing support for legacy functions like the ones you quoted be a problem? OR why was it made to be a problem by switching off support for them?

Could Orbiter 2010 instead have built upon it's 'library' of supported routines, that, depending upon which ones were utilised due to which version of the 'sdk' was followed at the time the ship was built?
(2006 SDK has X features. 2010 SDK has all X features plus New Y features)

The current 'latest' Orbiter version would simply call up those parameters that are being requested by older ships & offer them to the ship (addon etc).
Whilst Newer ships & addons, that get built following the guidelines of the latest SDK, simply access those newer parameters (plus any older ones the developer might choose to use.)
Afterall we're not trying to tamper with Orbiters 'core' phyics engine are we?

JUst a thought .. But please do explain the reasons why this is unworkable, Or 'was' thought of during Orbiter 2010's development, & to support legacy params was proving to be unworkable?

I need to make funeral arrangements for my Vespucci D .. very depressed ;-)

Can anyone suggest a suitable replacement ship, that operates in a similar manner & has the similar asthetic looks?

Many thanks
Al

Well i wasn't involved in Orbiter 2010 development.. i guess ultimately this can only be answered by Martin. But as a developer myself i can imagine the problems of carrying along backwards compatibility from version to version. It makes the whole project bigger, less manageable and error-prone. I mean orbiter has been around for 10 years now.. i don't know how many versions of the API there have been.
I prefer Martin works on new features instead of fiddling around with backward compatibility.

Only recently n72.75 pointed me to the [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3034"]Bullet MK1[/ame]. A fine ship for fast interplanetary flights and works well in Orbiter2010. Its not a monster like the vespucci and only has one docking port in the front but its still a nice ship.
