VR headset

Hmm. I'm very sceptical. I cannot believe that 2x 640x480 in less tha a centimeter distance to the eye will result in a better image than my 24'' with 1920x1280. Either way, this is nothing I would buy without actually testing it in practice first.

Agreed, hands on before parting with cash! The resolution might not be up to much but I do like the idea of the head tracking. Probably wouldn't work with Orbiter without coding an interface but I could imagine glueing a couple of LEDs on the top to use it with TrackIR.

Interesting review of the thing, written by a sceptic:

I have used similar devices back in the days of Duke Nukem 3D.
It is absolutely great. The resolution is not a problem at all.
BUT I wouldn't want to pilot my ship with it. They are great to walk around in VR etc., but reading is not recommended with these things.
I'd rather have your 24" :P

I sometimes use TrackIR (with a standard monitor). It's actually a good thing, but I usually loock at the 2D Panel or glass cockpit view so TrackIR is only of limited use.

This scares me as well:
60 Hz progressive scan display update rates

Sounds quite low. Anything below 75Hz gives me a headache after an hour. That close to my eyes, I'd be cross-eyed in 15 minutes...

I used a similar model at a Brookstone store. Its like looking at a television at a distance, what i saw was a (not too large) square in front of me, so peripheral vision is zero. I suspect this one is similar, as it says: "Equivalent to a 62” screen viewed at 9 feet", "32-degree field of view". I wouldnt mind having one though (...if it's free).

I had the VictorMax, which was made to play SNES, or watch tv. It was great! (And it still is, it still works)

It's an LCD, so unlikely to be a problem; they don't have the same flicker as a CRT.

You're gonna get a headache anyway if the left and right image aren't aligned perfectly. And everybody has a slightly different distance between the eyes, so you'd have to adjust it carefully each time when someone else uses it.
