Wanted, 3 BIL for NASA per FY

Oh dear, $3 billion, how terrible.

We can't afford that, we're too busy building tanks and planes and fighting wars for people who don't even want our help.

Really, I say--give NASA what they need. In the 60s NASA proved that when you give them what they need, great things get done.

What that report says is what I've been saying for a while: We can't go back to the moon on NASA's current budget, and international cooperation would be nice too.

Reminds me of a VISA commerical....
 • Spend tens of billions to bail out the failed American auto makers - no problem.
 • Spend a few hundred billion (approx 700 Billion) to bail out Bankers and Wall Street - no problem.
 • Spend nothing on NASA to get to the Moon, Mars and Beyond ... PRICELESS.

Really, I say--give NASA what they need.
What NASA's MSFC say they need, or what Augustine says they need? Personally, I think the latter would be better:
Summary Report of the Review of U.S. Human Space Flight Plans Committee said:
If appropriately funded, a technology development program would re-engage the minds at American universities, in industry and within NASA. The investments should be designed to increase the capabilities and reduce the costs of future exploration. This will benefit human and robotic exploration, the commercial space community, and other U.S. government users.

What they actually need, which is closer to the Augustine number.

NASA needs to know that they'll actually get the amount they ask for when they ask for it (within reason, of course), so they're not lowballing numbers for Congress. It's lose-lose: ask for too much up front, and get rejected up front. Ask for not enough, and you can't deliver.

We just handed a hundred years of NASA budget to a bunch of bankers to solve a short-term problem caused by...the same bunch of bankers. How in the hell can they not agree to this, which is barely undoing the budget cuts caused by inflation?

Does it win Representatives/Senators votes that they would not otherwise get? If not, then rest assured that they will never fund it.
