What are your "essential" addons for a new Orbiter installation?

Orbitersound, IMFD, Videnie, ScreenCapture, AutoRudder, UCGO, Velcro Rockets, and maybe a few pretty planet textures. There are also a few tweaks to be made to the keymap and other things to make it playable. Finally, the folder it's installed in needs a silly name.

Quite a lot of add-ons, the list changes as my types of Orbiter fun change.

Also Izack, can you give us an example of a silly name? Please?

Seems everybody loves being able to hear.

IMFD, in addition to those above.

My directory's name isn't silly - just short. I call it "1". It lives in a folder called "ORBITER" where I also store all the addon zips.

It makes addon installation easy - just delete "ORBITER" from the unzip directory and add "1".

:compbash2:

As for addons, hmmm... For a NEW installation, I guess you mean for a person new to Orbiter?
In that case, I'd say the DGIV and UCGO/UMMU are essential, as they can guide you into the fun but heavy orbital mechanics that Orbiter is really about.

To me the only essential addons are UMMU, OrbiterSound, and hi-res planets, Not included on your list is "IMFD". I include these automatically with any installation.

From there its just an issue of "What do I feel like flying?" I have 2 installations on my computer one is strictly historical with Shuttle Fleet, AMSO, etc. The other I is my "Fun" installation with Wideawake, DGIV, XR fleet, and bases scattered throughout the solar system.

Forgot to add that. :facepalm:

How could you miss that? :lol: The poll is not complete without the XR fleet, the best (non-fictional) spacecraft addon IMHO!!

I would definitely include IMFD, and maybe LunarTransfer MFD in my base install. That's probably because I find interplanetary flights to be much more interesting then repeated docking maneuvers. First time I did KSC->Moon->Wheel Dock was pretty fun though.

Essential addons for me :
Base Sync MFD
[ame=http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2139]Aerobrake MFD[/ame]
XR-1, XR-2, XR-5
Orbiter Sound
Universal Mmu 2.0
Earth L11 L14
Planet & Moons

Not as "essential", but addons that i see so much as "standard" that they will always be a part of a default Orbiter install for me :

UCGO
Deltaglider-IV
[ame=http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4457]ISS with Universal MMu and UCGO[/ame]
[ame=http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3666]Wideawake International[/ame]
