Question What did you do this year for your or the O-F community?

Hosted a stable and not very laggy Minecraft server :P

I brought probably the only Tea Party presence to O-F political discussions:lol:

The question was about "contributions", do remember that. :tiphat:

As for myself, I've been far too busy with my studies to commit any serious time to orbiter projects.

Finished up version 2.1 of the Trajectory Optimization Tool. (It will go up on OHM soon, I swear!)

Argued about politics.

Complained about bugs.

Screenshot now and then.

So yeah, I'm useless.

Some forum housekeeping, general weirdness in the staff room, general weirdness in the Minecraft server... Oh, and the ban. One spam ban, IIRC.

Hmm, I haven't really done much for the community but I joined this year.

I made a few threads.

I tried out Orbiter.

Watched as the last Shuttle came to wheels stop with all you guys.:)

I've made two Orbiter videos and I am working on a more ambitious one for the new year if that counts as doing something for the community.

I showed by example that high thrust fusion powered interplanetary spacecrafts don't work. And that nuclear spaceplanes are a bad idea. And that if your rocket carries over a thousand tons of propellant in a tank only 3 tons heavy, you need to invent it again.

I also posted general nonsense and whined about politics... space politics.

Hm...normal modly duties....a few agony aunt moments and this :bailout:

My community:
I donated blood twice this year and plasma (not the 4th state of matter) four times. (Same thing i've done ever since i turned 18).
At December 31st i'll short out all the spare change i've been placing in a jar during these last twelve months, and then donate the sum to my favourite charities (doctors without borders and two local ones, a child's smile and make a wish, for children with cancer).

This year in particular i tried to do a thing that overlaps my RL community and this wonderfull, on-line one, of which i am a proud to consider myself a member.

Unfortunately, it didn't go very well (as in number of responses that i thought i would get), but i learned the valuable lesson. Contact the mods and admins, and ESPECIALLY the person that originally came up with the challenge, BEFORE you post that you'll give money to anyone that makes it!

As for what i've done for the actual Orbiter community:
Not much, perhaps i've answered a couple of questions for newbies and i've placed one or two interesting posts in the tutorials and challenges forum.

Hope next year, i'll do better.

Have a GREAT New Year!

For my country: I did 7 months of public service in the US Senate.

For my community: I continued to donate to several charities that do good work and gave money to NPR.

For orbiter: Nothing, sadly. Hopefully next year I will donate to the forum when my cash flow improves and I can have some time to work on a tutorial or two.

For myself: I started working out again, got myself a wonderful girlfriend, and was able to go from being budget cutted out of a job to having another one in a different (but related) field.

As far as the community goes, I'd like to start EMS training soon to become a paramedic, a personal dream of mine.

For my community: Helped in working on a program that resulted in a medical study, I could possibly help save lives from cancer!

For O-F: *shrugs* Introduce a VSA!.... er sumfing. OH WAIT, yeah, I gave O-F some of my meager funds to help keep it alive!

For my friends: Impossible to list

For myself: Got accepted to the University of Miami through my own damn perseverance, got a girlfriend as well, got a little bit wiser (hopefully), learned some more, LEARNED HOW TO CORRECTLY FLY AN ORBITAL VEHICLE, and generally did all I set out at the beginning of the year. I am satisfied.

Hmm. Started 29 threads in Spaceflight News and 49 in general Off-Topic to throw more logs in the flame. So my contribution was mostly distracting and destructive. :hide:

...distracting and destructive...

Funny!
Admittedly I've asked a few boneheaded questions.

But I've also answered quite a few also, and I'd like to think I've helped out a few Orbinauts who were stuck on something that wasn't all that simple.

I hope to have my first add-on uploaded to the 'Hangar before the year is out. Final revision to the manual, and maybe some last minute things to the guidance programs. You know, the fiddly bits.

I made videos - and screenshot - (oe that in holidays my reallife-problems are away I will start again with screenshots, videos, reliing VSAS, etc...)
also I started playing minecraft...

What did I do for O-F? well. let's see... I've probably been one of the contributing factors that led to the establishement of the basement... :shifty:

To make up for that I frantically released a new version of Orbiter Galaxy before the year was gone, basically letting Artlav restore my reputation

Community service? kind of a tricky question when you're actually getting paid for doing community service.

Hmm... since joining O-F this January, I've posted a lot of news report threads, especially orbital launch news and Chinese spaceflight news, and did some investigation work on the two Soyuz failures of 2011 using Orbiter. Unfortunately I didn't do too much for the community this year (there's one blood donation last week, helping out with a donation event earlier this year, but that's more or less about it...); hopefully I can do a lot more in 2012 (already seeking opportunity for a place in projects helping people around the world...).

and yes, I will keep this promise, allthough I got XPLANE10, now - well i will ALSO make some vids and screenshots with that - also I will make my first COD-BlackOps-Video...
