Question What have you done for the betterment of your community?

Or being robbed. What else could it be if they pave the roads with water soluble asphalt?

I would ask the question, who has the asphalt that I order?

As a member of the Air Training Corps we do a lot of community activities like bag packing for people at the supermarket.

Don't try that with my shopping, its for your own good.

You should think of it as buying civilisation.

Depends on where you live. Here unscrupulous politicians embezzle huge amounts of money so they can live in fancy houses, buy flashy cars, and pay for all their wives/mistresses.

And so that they can eat sushi off of naked women.

All while millions of people live like this:

To help my extended community, maybe the best thing I could do is join the opposition and hope that they're somehow better.

Ever considered opening a Sushi Restaurant?

I definitely need to go to that sushi restaurant... I dont even like sushi...

But seriously... Capitalism is always beneficial to one group of people... Those at the bottom complain and those at the top complain they dont have anything else to do with their money... If most of us was at the top of the capitalist chain we would be in opposition of those who are opposing us...

Huh? Me bad or you bad?

I will become bad, and mad, if you touch my shopping, and that is in most cases not good for your health, so it is bad for you.

I moved in and I contributed a smile, with a happy face. This is rare as all the residents in my community feel that a turned up nose is the best disposition. They all hate me. But I feel that they will get over it, or move away.

Weston Mo, What a bunch of snobs, they wont even give you the time of day. It's supposed to be a historic town, the only thing historic is the welcome wagon at the cemetary, and the unfriendlyness and indifference from the mortician.

Does replacing light bulbs in the elevator, stairs and all such places of the building i live in count?
Also, i always wind up fixing all kinds of things, be it torn door closer at the main entrance, or neighbour daughter's computer with a zoo in it.

No one has the granite pebbles the subcontractor said to have bought from an ACME-Plus inc. (accidentally belonging to the official that signed the repair contract), and the road is paved over limestone pebbles, acquired from nearby swamps at minimal expense.

And every year by the time the roads melt the tax ministry can't find any trace of either the subcontractor or the supplier.

Just like the winter, which always arrive suddenly.

I've contributed to improve local traffic by removing myself from it ;)

All traffic congestions in Sao Paulo are now 5 meters shorter because of me not being there.... more people should do the same... then it would be habitable.

Also, since I'm working from home now on most days, I really don't do much to contribute to traffic here anyways, and I guess it helps the environment (and my own sanity as well... I've realized I have traffic-phobia)

Cheers

I can't remember something special, but I try to do little things everyday. Not too much noise for the neighbours (and I play the guitar). Replacing toilet paper rolls at school when it's not done. Sorting things that have been laid in a wrong manner. Fixing little things, when it is easy and there is no risk to damage the system (mechanical, electrical, computer...). I don't like carelessness.

...or neighbour daughter's computer with a zoo in it...

Hehehe one time, while scanning my small sister computer, I found 293 viruses. Wow, nice collection ! :hail:

Ah, winter, the really nasty thing here. Everybody is reacting really surprised if you mention that it happens every year.

I've found , over the years, if I dump enough garbage in one specific area eventually it gets unsightly. And then, the magic happens. The village comes out and not only cleans the one area full of my garbage, but they do the whole section and park area too!

Sort of like slowing down in orbiter to speed up. You have to make a mess to clean the place!

I'm afraid I haven't done much. The most I can say I have done for my community is that I do my best to obey traffic laws, try to be a good citizen who gets along with my neighbors, and I exercise my right to vote for community leaders/officers.

I help with LaserFest, a group of physics and engineering students at my university (WVU) that goes to schools and libraries around West Virginia to teach elementary-level kids a little bit about lasers and careers in STEM fields while giving them a laser show. It's really fun!

Well, let's see...
Helped set up the computer room for a school near here which could only afford second-hand stuff (amazing what you can do with some applied Ubuntu and patience), set up their library database and organized the local neighbourhood watch - although it's more like the local neighbourhood intelligence agency.

Does being a regular blood donor count?

I obey the traffic laws to the letter, and it just pisses everybody off. Especially slow driving in this time of higher gas prices.
